IMHO: Issa's hearing and all the contrception coverage really educated me about some things

in America.

We women have been lying to ourselves and been lied to by men.

"We've come a long way" (Yes I know smoking slogan but it was the first "feminist" slogan I ever saw--what does that say to you?)

Is just a tongue and check smoke and mirrors illusion of just how much power we thought we had.

Issa's little hearing proved just how little control we still have on our issues.

Let's put it this way. Media Matters indicated in an article that the majority of the people talking about the contraception debate on TV where men. Issa's hearing had ONLY 2 WOMEN on the panel and BOTH toed the line about Contraception being bad or evil.

Now what if we turn the tables. What if group of Female House of Rep called a hearing about insurance companies covering the cost of Viagra or said medications -which according to my friend she was shocked to find that her father's insurance covered for him.

What if that hearing had all female witnesses and only 2 men who spoke in favor of NOT having the drug covered by insurance.

What if the majority of new debates where dominated by women talking about this issue? How many of Issa ilk would have a sh#T fit?

It shows that the Glass ceiling is VERY much present they just allow a few holes in there.

(Please note I am not slamming all men. I am speaking of the "Man's club" I know a lot of men do side and were as outraged about these events as women where this past week.)

Deep down most men I know are real scum. There are exceptions, and we have some real good ones right here at DU. But generally they appear to be real assholes.

Always been that way.

What I mean is, I feel like it brings down the gravity of the idea of having access to birth control because they are not even in the same league as far as what they provide to the people who use them. I understand and totally agree with your premise - that related medications for men would not be and are not debated, but the ramifications of contraception and the lack thereof for women are far, far more serious than a male not having access to Viagra etc. I actually don't think that there is an adequate equivalent comparison on the male side to the benefits that contraception provides for women.

Basically, any side-by-sides to Viagra or other similar drugs in that family are only a shadow of the seriousness of birth control, and I think that point should be emphasized when this otherwise very salient observation on who is deciding the fates of women, and hypothetically what would happen when the tables are turned, is brought up.

I could come up with. But really that comparison is tellin because you don't see anyone saying Oh a man who wants Viagra is a loose man who only thinks about sex.

But one of the arguements about birth control/conraceptions are the fact that very arguement is made about women.

Let's face it there is no male equivocation of a male drug to birth control for women.
