along with three other versions that were produced by three other entities. I never get tired of watching them.

Ambrose's is my favorite book, and daughter recalls me reading it on a long family trip. I forget our route, but somehow recall finishing it, with tears in my eyes, as we passed Richmond, VA.

I was affected so much by the film that I flew up to Washington and signed the papers to buy a house that was located within walking distance of the spot on the bank of the Columbia River where Lewis & Clark had their last encampment, before the start of their return trip back to civilization (It's a park/open space now). It's a long story, but in the end it didn't happen for me. But from time to time I still like to think about what might have been if I had moved there. With all of the dams they have built on the Columbia now, the flow of the water has been reduced quite a bit. But at the spot where that park is, it still flows at about 8 knots; which is more than I have ever been able to swim against. It's a good thing that the weather there is often cloudy, because I know I would be tempted to go swimming on some really hot day.
