http://www.pcworld.com/article/2044080/yahoo-says-release-of-secret-fisa-court-order-will-prove-it-resisted-directives.htmlYahoo wants the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to order the public release of a secret order in a 2008 surveillance dispute, as it will demonstrate that the Internet company objected strenuously to government directives.
In separate motions, Microsoft and Google have asked that they be allowed by the court to disclose aggregate statistics on orders and directives that were received under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and related regulations.
Like all companies, Yahoo! cannot lawfully break out FISA request numbers at this time because those numbers are classified; however, we strongly urge the federal government to reconsider its stance on this issue, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and General Counsel Ron Bell wrote in a blog post in June.
Although i'm not sure i fully get the article b/c from the brief it seems as though though the court has said it does not object to their asking to declassify the info as per their June 2013 request, and now Yahoo asks that they be allowed to release it.

Either way... And in their brief Yahoo refers to "growing public debate". ;D. The people are asking, therefore yahoo needs to give their customers the answers.

(14,459 posts)3. The companies are now going to demand it
And they might have the money/pull to pull it off- people will run from their services unless they can prove that the US forced them to do it.
The US meanwhile has to prove that they did nothing.
Going to get interesting.
