I think it needs to be said that....

being a gun owner does not mean you are a gun nut
being in favor of gun control does not mean you think no one should own a gun, ever
being an Obama critic does not mean you are an Obama basher
being an Obama supporter does not mean you are an Obama sycophant
being critical of certain actions by Democrats does not mean you are FOR the Republican action
being pro gay marriage does not mean you are against straight marriage
being anti war does not mean you are anti defense

There are a lot of false equivalencies and hyperbolic assumptions already being heaped on us by the Right, it would be great if we could stop doing it to one another.

If I might add, on a very nitpicky note, one should not have to preface an observation with qualifications in order for you to look at that observation objectively. Someone criticized a thread I made the other day because I did not point out that some people have unfairly criticized Obama here. In other words, my observation that some of the people critical of Obama have been unfairly treated or dismissed....could not even be CONSIDERED by some people because I did not preface it with the very obvious point that some people have been unfairly critical of Obama. Which is sort of like refusing to consider the idea that man contributes to climate change unless the person stipulates every point beforehand with the truth that other things outside of man contribute to climate. It's a pretty childish distraction, if you don't mind me saying, and is not part of a good faith effort to reach an amicable resolution.

Lastly, I spoke to my very Conservative boss today about the Deficit reduction over the last 4 years and his head nearly exploded. It was awesome. He said he will not be voting Republican anymore because "they are all liars." He won't be voting Democratic either, but hey, I chock it up in the "win" column. Be well, everyone.

I thought this was a very good post, although on a nit-picky note, I don't think you should have had to say it. Welcome to DU!
