Zimmerman assaulted a LEO who did not identify himself as LEO, years later Zim does not ID himself

Serino saw the parallel right away and scolded Zimmerman for this:

Zimmerman: There was a, um, we were at a bar, 5 guys and 6,7 girls. And, ah…I went to, my buddy was underage and he was drinking apparently and I went, I was at the bathroom. He has a problem dancing with other guys’ girlfriends. And he, when I came out of the bathroom, one of the girls we were with said, hey, your buddy just got drug out of here by the neck like some big dude. And so I just thought he caused a fight and, or he was gonna be hit, his butt kicked. So…I headed out, and 2 friends that I was with headed out at the same time. And, but I got out there first. When I got out there, this guy, a big guy, had him by the neck, up against the wall. And, ah, I said, hey, what are you doing? And he goes, something like, get the fuck out of here (unintelligible)… something like that. And I said, what are you talking about man, what’s your problem? And I walked up to him and he grabbed me by the shirt and pushed me, and kinda hit me in the chin. So I grabbed him back. And as soon as I grabbed him, turned out he was, ah, DEA or, um, not DTA, ATF.
...
Zimmerman: No, he didn’t have his badge on at all.

Serino: That’s kinda the same lines as that, I mean, I don’t know how this is gonna help at this point but, had told this child that you were Neighborhood Watch and you were just wondering what the hell he was doing when he came up to your car? You probably wouldn’t be here right now. Did that, has that ever registered to you at all? I mean, I gotta try to get into your head somehow, and, and I guess that I answer to his family right now.

3. I think Serino is the most interesting figure in this whole drama

In the tapes, he does a kind of "good cop" interrogation -- says things like "help me understand this" and 'what can we tell this child's family?' He calls TM "a child" and "a good kid." From his more pointed questions and observations it seems like he found all the holes in Zimmerman's stories. He connects with Zimmerman as a person with hispanic parents then asks very directly if Zim has a problem with black people. But if you read it a different way, it appears Serino really is trying to help Zim avoid charges by making sure his story fits with the physical facts and the recorded audio of his calls to police.

4. Yes, but he's also a liar. He changed his own demeanor and testimony, which makes me believe

that someone or some people got to him. He could have been the hero in this case, but he chose not to.

And on that tape, he does sound like he's trying to get Zimmerman to say that it was him screaming, but Zimmerman says, "that doesn't even sound like me".

Serino is the most interesting character, but he's not without blemish.

5. His interrogations of Zimmerman are like a mini trial

He asks questions of Zimmerman that will not be asked in this trial because Zimmerman is not taking the stand.

6. And if that excerpt is a reasonably accurate description

of what happened between Zimmerman and the ATF agent, we now know why the charges were dropped.

8. Looks like Zim pleaded to a lesser charge because he did alcohol treatment program after that

but that is beside the point:

Zimmerman has never given a real answer to why he didn't ID himself as neighborhood watch. He simply answers Serino with "I don't know."

If he is not neighborhood watch then he is just a creepy guy with a gun chasing kids in the dark. If he IS neighborhood watch then he has a legit purpose for asking questions of people he doesn't recognize from the neighborhood.

It may have to do with Zim carrying a gun -- Neighborhood Watch is not supposed to carry. Only observe and call.

7. So accusations that Zimmerman assaulted a police officer are misleading, you said

Since the officer had no badge and Zimmerman had no way of knowing he was law enforcement.

Did you just debunk an often-repeated myth against Zimmerman?

9. Never fear...

Never fear... the illegal money-transfer he attempted from his jail cell were not misleading. So you still have that.

10. If I saw a buff white guy with cropped hair haul an underaged guy out of bar

for drinking underage I wouldn't assume that he is just another bar patron.

But I'm going to (I think) agree with you that this was a minor incident (no pun intended). Serino's point is that Zimmerman could have learned from it that people behave differently, more compliantly, once you ID as law enforcement.

11. Ok. He assaulted a stranger that turned out to be a cop. Better?

He saw them confronting his friends, and charged in without asking questions first, or even ascertaining facts. When the cops pulled their badges out on lanyards, he didn't stop. He beat up his girlfriend. He beat up a woman at a bar. He made racist, violent threats against coworkers. He was once detained/arrested after he initiated a road rage incident. The HOA had received numerous complaints about him following, harassing, and frightening residents. And that's just some of what he's done; it's not his entire curriculum vital.

12. "confronting" I love your cute word for grabbing someone by the neck

"So…I headed out, and 2 friends that I was with headed out at the same time.

I think that bu using "confronting" you sought to make the actions of the cop seem more likely to warrant inaction by Zimmerman.
If I see my friend grabbed by the neck by a guy I don't know to be a cop, I would do the same thing.

Point #2) You falsely said that he didn't ask questions. Let's paste the exact same thing I pasted above and see if that's true:

"So…I headed out, and 2 friends that I was with headed out at the same time. And, but I got out there first. When I got out there, this guy, a big guy, had him by the neck, up against the wall. And, ah, I said, hey, what are you doing? And he goes, something like, get the fuck out of here (unintelligible)… something like that.
