Pelosi To GOP: ‘Duh!,’ Women Should Be Included In A Hearing About Contraception

Pelosi To GOP: ‘Duh!,’ Women Should Be Included In A Hearing About Contraception

By Igor Volsky

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) echoed Democrats’ concerns about Republicans excluding female witnesses from a hearing focusing on President Obama’s new regulation requiring insurers and employers to provide birth control in their health insurance plans. “This is an issue about women’s health and I believe that women’s health should be covered in all fo the insurance plans,” Pelosi insisted at her press briefing this morning, refuting the GOP’s claim that the debate should focus on “religious liberties.”

“Where are the women? And that’s a good question for the whole debate. Where are the women?” she asked. “Imagine, having a panel on women’s health and then not having any women on the panel, duh!”:

PELOSI: What is it that men don’t understand about women’s health and how central the issue of family planning is to that? Not just if you’re having families but if you need those kinds of prescription drugs for your general health, which was the testimony they would include this morning if they had allowed a woman on the panel. I think the fact that they did not allow a woman on the panel is symbolic of the whole debate as to who is making these decisions about women’s health and who should be covered.

In Obamacare the insurance companies can keep 15% of all the money. No questions asked. The more that is spent the more they make. Why do you think they love Obamacare?

No Pap tests? No breast cancer screenings? No prostate screenings? No colonoscopy? My insurance not only paid for these once a year, they were REQUIRED to maintain the coverage. Part of that whole "Wellness" package they do now. An ounce of prevention (BC) is worth a pound of cure (abortion).

Original Medicare for everyone without all the frills is the way to go. Part A and Part B. I think it should kick the insurance companies out of the mix. Health is no longer an insurable interest. Fund it with a progressive tax on all income.

But if you had Medicare for illness and accidents. And that is what I think should happen. You could afford a checkup. Also change the Tort Laws for malpractice. That reminds me. I gotta get my Almanac.

picture entirely and just make Single Payer the way for everyone to receive their medical care. And it saves the system a great deal of money to prevent as much as they can rather than practicing (and footing the bill for) fire engine medicine.

I think Medicare as started in the 60's is a good plan. What is wrong with that? Why not make it for everyone? If you think that is BS OK. I don't. Nobody even tries to. Let the Docs be Docs. The insurance companies love the AHCP. Docs hate it.

Over and over again, I hear remarks by Democrats referencing that Repubs didn't allow this or didn't allow that. Usually, even the minority party has SOME control over panels and such.

and by their rules, control the committee scheduling, functioning, and who can testify. I think the current Senate rules allow a minority party to hold a hearing but I need to verify.

I've been searching for a picture taken at either an Afghan or Egyptian conference on women's rights featuring an all-male panel of clerics, and of course no women in attendance. Would LOVE to see that pics alongside that of this panel of clergy. Oh, the captioning fun we would have!!
