So now we truly DO go back in time.

The Bush Family appointees have done their dirty work.

The thing that saddens me the most is that we had a very small sliver of light streaming through an almost-closed door, but our congress/white house of 09-10 were too timid to "go to that light". The senate was tight but the election shenanigans of '08 were fresh enough wounds, and our president had unheard of popularity.. that should have been issue number 1.

For that very short time we HAD a house of reps that COULD and DID act on many important issues, but they "passed" on the most important one of all...voting issues that plagued (s) almost EVERY state in some way, EVERY election.

Now those states/localities are "free at last" to tinker around with elections in any and every way they can.

Republicans NEVER EVER "just wait a bit".. The instant they get the reins of power, they start right in, and they never let up/ They understand that power can be fleeting, and they come to office with already prepared "ideas & plans" and then they implement them whether people like it or not. They do not care if thousands of people show up in their statehouses or if the opposition issues strongly worded statements ...or even if they leave the state to delay the inevitable.

They are now like a car thief who finds a BMW convertible (top down)with keys in the ignition. They have no gas money and they probably will crash the car, but they WILL drive off with it ....and no one can call the cops on them..

1. Exactly.

That's why the US slides to the right, the right figured out long ago that the way to win is to decide to win EVERY battle.

2. There is a silver lining I think though. The tea party, libertarian elements in the republican

party are NOT accepted by the independents and middle of the roaders in this country. Their views, especially on woman's rights, but also other issues, are considered extremist position, that will not be accepted by the middle in this country

That is why it is essential that Democrats stop messing around, and come out very strong on issues like Social Security and Medicare

If and when we are truly "in charge" again, put in place some REAL LAWS that mandate that EVERYONE VOTES UNDER THE SAME RULES..using the same standards and practices.

With all the computers we have now, it should be a snap for states to issue everyone with a birth certificate on file (who does not also have a death certificate, obviously) a unique VOTER ID CARD... valid after age 18..

registration should be an opt-out thing ...never opt-in

Voting is a RIGHT, and anyone born here should be automatically "registered" when they turn 18 (as an independent). They choose a party when they first vote.
