Verizon revelations, Tim Clemente & the blackmail & intimidation of government critics Updated 06/22

Last edited Sat Jun 22, 2013, 01:10 PM - Edit history (24)

Tim Clemente ex-FBI on CNN "They can obtain the contents of all phone conversations AFTER the event."

Mass surveillance has been exponentially increased to build a file on EVERY American citizen.

Glenn Greenwald's article :-

The problem with metadata - it gives you a whole load of other information :-

For anyone still wondering why Obama didn't prosecute Bush/Cheney, you quite clearly now have your answer.

The purpose of the Mass Surveillance program does not have anything to do with combating terrorism.

It's purpose is to provide blackmail and intimidation material on anyone that might upset the government in the future.

Upsetting the government might involve :-

Attending an Occupy demo (the FBI have already tried to label Occupy as "domestic terrorists"
Attending a gun rights rally
Being a potential government whistle blower (we have all seen the crackdown on those by Obama)
Being critical of government actions or policy
Being a supporter of the Constitution, particularly the 1st and 4th amendments
A property dispute, e.g. over the amount of compensation for confiscating property in order to build the Keystone pipeline.

Material to be used in blackmail or intimidation would include anything you didn't want your partner, children or friends to find out about, e.g. :
An extra marital affair
Not being 100% honest on your tax filing or on an insurance claim form
A married man that has not come out and went to a gay bar
A visit to a lap dancing club on someone else's stag night
etc. etc.

If that failed to give up anything of use - they will go after close friends or family.
If your teenage kid has smoked dope that would be a powerful weapon to threaten you with. They could threaten to go after your kid and jail them.

The Mass Surveillance program is not to protect the people from terrorism.
It is never going to be able to do that - see the massive intelligence failure of Boston.
All the evidence was there that the elder brother was a substantive risk and the authorities did absolutely NOTHING to stop it.
They should of been closely monitoring the activities of the elder brother upon his return from his 6 month visit to the Caucasus - including attendance at an Islamic Extremist conference. They "dropped" him - the FBI had known he was a risk for years, he was on their watch list.
The FBI and the NSA are too busy monitoring the activities of law abiding citizens to stop terrorism.

The Mass Surveillance program is to protect the government FROM the people.
It is to provide a source of information to blackmail, intimidate and suppress government critics.

In case anyone has any doubts that all phone carriers are supplying data to the government (only QWest objected), that it is a continuous operation, has been going on for years and has been exponentially ramped up by Obama - here is just some of the evidence :-

The monitoring and capture of internet searches, email and social media is part of a Mass Surveillance program called Prism.
Most major technology companies are part of the program.
Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple.
This too has been exponentially ramped up by Obama.

The program to decrypt and capture all online financial transactions is on-going within the NSA.
This is part of the reason that the new $2bn data center has been built in Utah (it becomes fully operational in the Fall).
It takes a lot of server power to decrypt every financial transaction made in the US.

Even if you are not concerned about privacy rights, how about the money?
Obama has spent well over $100bn on ramping up the Mass Surveillance program.
He continues to spend tens of billions of dollars a year on it.
Yet we have the sequester, bridges falling down killing people and 9,000 bridges in the US with structural weaknesses that could go the same way.
BRIDGES are killing more US citizens than terrorists!

NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake on the US secrecy state as predator to the 1st amendment

The Mass Surveillance program is only one plank in Obama's program of numerous measures, to intimidate and suppress domestic dissent.

The intimidation of the general population to not be critical of the government is generally known as a Police State.
And make no mistake about it, that is EXACTLY what America has now become.

Even the NY Times is now writing editorials critical of Obama

Ari Fleischer just praised Obama for continuing Bush's 4th term on #CNN. It really is the state against the people.

Huffington Post's main story on their front page is using this picture and this headline :-

George W Obama

The yottabyte (derived from the SI prefix yotta-) is a unit of information or computer storage equal to one septillion (one long scale quadrillion or 1024) bytes (one quadrillion gigabytes). The unit symbol for the yottabyte is YB.

As of 2011, no storage system has achieved one zettabyte of information. The combined space of all computer hard drives in the world does not amount to even one yottabyte, but was estimated at approximately 160 exabytes in 2006. As of 2009, the entire Internet was estimated to contain close to 500 exabytes."

BTW, if the Internet is an estimated 500 exabytes big, how many exabytes is one yottabyte?

Answer: 1,048,576 exabytes

In other words, 2,097 Internet's can fit into one Yottabyte.

1. K&R "The Mass Surveillance program is to protect the government FROM the people."

When corporations buy into governments and use them to grow a corporate state that depends on the exploitation of "citizens" for profit, it is absolutely imperative to be able to put down public resistance before it grows.

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

Frank Zappa

"In the US, there is basically one party - the business party. It has two factions, called Democrats and Republicans, which are somewhat different but carry out variations on the same policies. By and large, I am opposed to those policies. As is most of the population."

Noam Chomsky

14. Kicking, because this is important. The storage of the collected surveillance data

is the most egregiously fascistic aspect of this. They are creating a database on every single citizen's communication and activities. Those who don't see the danger in that are either rank apologists, or they have not thought through the possibilities.

Citizen 1,675,402 begins to look a little too angry or activist, and it will be no trouble at all to search through the data and find some reason, somewhere, to call the local officers to check out some violation from 2013. To arrest, and have someone disappear.

It offers an entire infrastructure for pre-emptive silencing of opposition to the government, even before it has a chance to materialize. And for those who are implementing an agenda of corporate, profit-centered and human-exploiting policies that will cause widespread impoverishment and rage, this is exactly the sort of system that will offer tremendous temptations for abuse to prevent the inevitable pushback.

We saw already what the government did to proactively target Occupy. This surveillance program violates the fundamental trust Americans are supposed to have in their representative government. It is deeply disturbing, creepy as hell, and ALL Americans should be standing together now to stop it.
