(45,319 posts)Some states require a replacement from the same Party, not NJ, other States do not let the governor appoint anyone and run a crazy thing called an election to pick a US Senator, it's radical, but it works for us here in Oregon.
Basically it does not matter what anyone but Christie thinks, that's the way NJ likes to do things.

(2,667 posts)The Senate and State Governerships are a common road to the White House and with a self appointment he could cover both bases. It is also quite possible that he would not be the worst new Republican in the Senate.
