America isn't Falling Apart. It's Being Reborn. byMuskegon CriticFollow ................................ Bridges have crumbled before. And they will crumble again. America is at a crossroads. Not a death spiral. We're not going to be the most powerful nation on earth forever. Neither was England and look at them....now they have universal health care instead. Win some, lose some. The world is changing in dramatic ways, all around us. We are in the midst....in the MIDST....of a global revolution on many levels. Not just social, but technological. ........................... the REST: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/05/26/1211746/-America-isn-t-Falling-Apart-It-s-Being-Reborn

3. We still are a VERY young nation.
In the grand scheme of things we've been around for about a hot second.

9. Good point. Thousands of years of history in Europe but a little more than 2 centuries here.
Of course native Americans were here first but they didn't have the perspective of progress as Europe did. Not that progress is good in its own right but that's what ended up conquering the world.

2. The question is, how can we take on corporations that have us by the neck and are squeezing tightly?
They own our government and they have fixed the system ... They are a very difficult target.
I hope this article is correct, though. Hope is a good thing. |

5. It's not so much that they own the government, is it?
It's that our legislators have prostrated themselves before them. I wonder if that's a more accurate way of looking at it.

11. Our government has made it difficult to live without being employed by a corporation.
That will certainly empower corporations if you can survive without one.

15. Don't you mean can't survive without one?
Rather than:
Our government has made it difficult to live without being employed by a corporation. That will certainly empower corporations if you can survive without one.
It should be: That will certainly empower corporations if you can't survive without one. |

16. And, BTW, I completely agree
Not selling-out has already become more difficult. It doesn't matter how good you are, "loyalty" is most important.

It's a great line. We've never clicked on all socio-economic cylinders.
The potential for something better is still there. |

10. Wishful thinking.
Unlikely that the die-hard corporatists and oligarchs are ever going to let anybody into a position powerful enough to significantly change their self-serving paradigm. If they can't buy 'em, there's always small planes and grassy knolls and polonium.

13. Oh we're a long way from that.
There are way too many who are fat and happy and while sure they feel sorry for those who aren't making it, let's not make waves that would rock our boat.
Now let's go shopping and see a movie and stop and eat 2000 calorie dinners as some shithole chain and commiserate about what's wrong with the world today. Julie |

Wait until ALEC controls the United Nations. They probably already do.
We are staring at a corporate world order. |
