Many of us found that Edwards "Two Americas" resonated with us. If Sanford could win in South Carolina...why couldn't John Edwards be dusted off and put out there to run in 2016?
We all loved Elizabeth...and Edwards has had his "time out."
WHY NOT? He did have "THE MESSAGE."
Since it's REHAB TIME....LET's GO FOR IT? Ya' Think?

(3,813 posts)I despised Edwards long before the infidelity scandal surfaced: for his co-sponsorship of the Patriot Act & the Iraq War Resolution / AUMF, for being Senator Gone during his one partial term 'representing' NC, for his smarmy, fake-assed two Americas spiel that was never backed by action, and or his sulking, desultory performance in the VP slot in 2004.
Both because of, and regardless of the (many) parallels with Sanford, I will never vote for Edwards again. Let Republicans vote for smarmy, lying fucktards if they want. I expect better of my leaders.

(53,031 posts)He was running for president. lying the whole time, and his wife was dying from cancer. Plus I'm not a Repug. I don't want a sleezebag in office. Truthfully, I didn't believe his rhetoric before the affair came out. It sounded good, but I didn't think he really believed it. He seemed untrustworthy to me. My sister independently came to the same conclusion. I wouldn't be surprised if many others did as well.

Seriously, few people could pull off on a national level the hypocrisy that Sanford did in one fairly conservative district. I certainly believe that Edwards is not one of them. Your conclusion is 100% correct.

(84,711 posts)If Clinton was Diddling with Lewinsky off the Oval Office and we ALL "Love Him Today.."
Then what's wrong with John Edwards. He's certainly been through "THE FIRE" That's what elects our Politicians Today!
He just needs a good Dem Benefactor like Penny Pritzker and (oops he had one...but, she was old) Nevermind...He just needs a Hot Shot Female Progressive from Atlanta and he's Golden to run.
It doesn't matter what he did in the PAST.....It's about TODAY!
And..."Two America's" has a nice ring to it.

(84,711 posts)I understand what you say about the belief in him...and I'm not trashing that. So many folks loved his message and what he turned out to be...is his own doing..
Those who thought his message resonated shouldn't be trashed for hoping for better...just like those who supported Obama (however he turns out...believed and hoped for better)...Just saying.
My post is more about how Hypocritical our politics are that Sanford could win..and how Clinton got Rehabilitated than really pushing for promoting Edwards again... But, if Sanford could WIN...then why not (given our corrupt politics...couldn't Edwards?) And...no...I wouldn't vote for him...but many might...given the way things are these days.

(84,711 posts)It's a tragedy how he ended up. So many Dems had their hopes on him. But, his message, I believe, was correct. It shouldn't go down in flames just because he did.

http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/incident-on-chappaquiddick-island
Shortly after leaving a party on Chappaquiddick Island, Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy of Massachusetts drives an Oldsmobile off a wooden bridge into a tide-swept pond. Kennedy escaped the submerged car, but his passenger, 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, did not. The senator did not report the fatal car accident for 10 hours.
On the evening of July 18, 1969, while most Americans were home watching television reports on the progress of the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission, Kennedy and his cousin Joe Gargan were hosting a cookout and party at a rented cottage on Chappaquiddick Island, an affluent island near Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. The party was planned as a reunion for Kopechne and five other women, all veterans of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign. Bobby Kennedy was Ted Kennedy's older brother, and following Bobby's assassination in June 1968 Ted took up his family's political torch. In 1969, Ted Kennedy was elected majority whip in the U.S. Senate, and he seemed an early front-runner for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination.
Just after 11 p.m., Kennedy left the party with Kopechne, by his account to drive to the ferry slip where they would catch a boat back to their respective lodgings in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. While driving down the main roadway, Kennedy took a sharp turn onto the unpaved Dike Road, drove for a short distance, and then missed the ramp to a narrow wooden bridge and drove into Poucha Pond. Kennedy, a married man, claimed the Dike Road excursion was a wrong turn. However, both he and Kopechne had previously driven down the same road, which led to a secluded ocean beach just beyond the bridge. In addition, Kopechne had left both her purse and room key at the party.

(4,775 posts)Edwards had the message but he never believed it any more than Obama did, so no second chance for him.
Elliott Spitzer, on the other hand, is someone who will take on the powerful, at least to a greater degree than anyone else that matters. He's not a pretty face in a nice suit saying whatever he thinks will get him elected, he actually believes in things. So I'd be willing to forgive him. And I always thought he was "honey-potted" anyway, way too suspicious to take at face value.
