The only way Romney wins is if The Continent plunges the world into a Depression.

Right now the President has a solid case to make that things are improving.

This is why Congress has an approval rating of 11%. When it comes to blame, the majority is correctly pointing their collective fingers in the right direction.

This is why I think the President can survive European disastor. To me, it is Congress that will receive every "punch in the face" with respect to economic troubles. It is the support from the House of Representatives for the wealthy 1% that is the referendum and not the referendum on Obama that the Tea Party had hoped for. Every hit on our economy will paid for by Congress more than the President.

The President can take credit for an improving economy and blame the GOP backed bankers for any economic setbacks. This political philosophy will work because it is the truth.

Let that graph climb for a while and the economy will freeze up again.

14. Gas Pains? U.S. Diesel, Gas Exports Surpass Imports

^snip^

December 29, 2011

For the first time in more than six decades, the United States is exporting more gasoline and diesel than it imports.

To be clear, we're talking about finished petroleum products, not crude oil. The U.S. still imports about half the crude it consumes.

Refineries are touting this new export statistic — after all, gasoline and diesel are manufactured products. They say a boost in exports keeps more manufacturing jobs in the U.S. But one reason exports are increasing is that demand for gas in this country is declining.

People like Rachel Ezekiel-Fishbein of Elkins Park, Pa., are choosing to drive more efficient cars and consuming less gas. She stopped driving a Honda Odyssey minivan that gets about 14 miles per gallon in the city. Now, she drives a red Prius hybrid that's getting about 40 mpg.

President Obama can run against big oil if the price spikes before the election. Even with gas at ~$3.50 a gallon he should be able to work this into the debate.

as a result of stratospheric oil prices. At the same time the President would be placed in a no win situation in terms of whether or not to support military action. Of course, if push came to shove - he would not be able to withstand the pressure - so he would have to support it whether he wanted to or not. I cannot imagine a non-catastrophic scenario of how events would play out once military action was initiated by the State of Israel. Of course the Iranians would almost certainly feel they had to retaliate against American interest which would of course drag America into direct conflict. A devastated economy combined with a situation in which Obama was forced into actions that would be opposed by a large portion of the population while being accused of weakness by the Republicans could all combine for a defeat in November.

Otherwise Obama is headed for victory. So let us hope and pray for peace on the Persian Gulf.

I'm not sure if that can defeat President Obama

There is also a Romney collapse factor where the guy pulls a "Dean Scream".

The only group that can really harm President Obama is the fringe left who refuse to accept that the guy has done a good job. The left needs to stay unified to not just keep the White House but to keep as many (D)s in Congress as possible too.

I definitely wouldn't vote for a repug. I remember very well when little boots right before the presidential election basically told congress-"oops, you gotta bail us out, we're in trouble." Why in the world would I want another repug in to just finish the job. Wall street had a very big hand in creating the economic devastation around the world, and I really wouldn't want a repug in to finish the world off, while a few crooks make even more money off of our demise.

sorry, those who stand by the old democratic platform-pro-labor (union), healthy social safety net, medical care as a human right, and tough regulation for wall street, food, air, medicine-are not "fringe left." We're just not into the "new democrats." But you probably already knew that.

Keynes over friedman, morality over straussian concepts, does not make one "fringe left."

I, as well as most of the family, will be voting for obama; however, we have not been happy with HIS CHOICES for fixing the economy or his capitulations to the right.
