Indiana's GOP Secretary of State Found Guilty of Voter Fraud

Indiana's GOP Secretary of State Found Guilty of Voter Fraud

Indiana's Republican Secretary of State Charlie White was convicted by jury on Saturday of multiple voter fraud counts, raising the prospect he might face jail time in addition to almost certainly losing his position as his state's top election official.

The voter fraud charges all relate to falsifying his legal residency and address information on the papers he filed with the office he now heads when he became a candidate. White apparently was involved in a messy divorce and used the address where he no longer was living.

White's conviction comes against a national political backdrop where dozens of Republican-led state legislatures have tightened voter ID requirements to allegedly prevent voter registration fraud--or at least that is the public justification, as opposed to the real reason which is to create barriers for perceived Democratic voting blocks: students, lower-income people and the elderly. ..........(more)
