General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have what I call my "3 groups" when it comes to the paranormal.
I'm starting a new thread since the Rachel Maddow/UFO thread is too long.
But here are the three main groups.
And some people can be combinations of the three groups, in fact I've seen a few people who were all three at once!
The first group is the smallest, fortunately.
These are people who are simply insane.
The voices have told they are right.
The second group are those to whom "The Agenda" is everything.
This group is a little larger than the first one.
There are conspiracies all over, and *The* *Truth* (translation: what they believe,) must be forced on everyone.
Skeptics and non-believers are government/Illuminati/Satanic/Jewish/whatever.
The third group is the largest.
They are in it for one big reason.
To cash in.
They make lots of money making bullshit books/movies/TV shows/Internet sites.

(111,245 posts)because most of the tinfoil hat brigade is just not swift enough to see the earnings potential. They just parrot away, broadcasting the swill far and wide and delivering new customers to the snake oil salesmen.

If there is something out of the ordinary, and borderline to full-on paranormal, there is some schmuck selling crap to the FTB's.
I used to be a part of the Fidonet, and a big forum there used to be "Holysmoke."
It was described as a "religious food fight."

(46,318 posts)Unlike the original writers of "The Amityville Horror," they wrote fiction, called it "real" and created a huge scam.

(10,175 posts)the line gets blurred, think of us like "Blair Witch" on steroids. However we never say outright "oh this is all true"

(46,318 posts)Last year I saw a UFO.
Looked like a spaceship and changed shape.
Fortunately I was able to get closer and saw it was a bunch of balloons tethered to a car dealership, blowing around in the wind.

(3,991 posts)Some sort of luminous energy ball over Florida. The folks recording it also recorded response from military helicopters.
It's not about ETs, Its about living in a world where science hasn't been fully open since the Manhattan project. We have no idea what tech exists in secret labs of US and foreign powers, and these weird sightings may be our only glimpses.
