Nebraska Republican State Senator tells Voters: "We just can't afford to save those lives."

By DUer Nancy Meyer

Tuesday, Feb 12, 2013 was Planned Parenthood Lobby Day at the Nebraska state capitol. More than 100 everyday people from all over the state assembled in Lincoln to talk to senators about upcoming legislative bills 528, 452 and 577. One of them, Republican Bill Kintner of District 2, was revealingly candid about his opinion of LB 577 with our group of eight concerned citizens.

LB 577 extends Medicaid coverage to an estimated 54,000 low-income people in Nebraska, including families. The stats show that for every 175 people who gain Medicaid coverage, one death is prevented, so this means approximately 500 Nebraskan deaths would be prevented. The option is fiscally prudent, because 100% of costs will be be covered by the federal government through 2016. The match does not go below 90% in the following years.

I see LB 577 as a pro-life, pro-family, pro-child piece of legislation. But Senator Kintner was adamantly opposed to the bill, saying that it just cost too much. We read him financial data to the contrary, but he just kept insisting it would cost the state "billions". Finally I said, "But studies show that it would save 500 lives in Nebraska." His response was, "Well, we just can't afford to save those lives." We were all stunned into silence. Finally I said, "Really? You won't vote in favor of saving the lives of Nebraskans?" Kintner shook his head. "We just can't afford it."

I replied, "Well, that's not a very pro-life position."

At that point some of the others found their voices and changed the topic. We were asked not to be confrontational, so I held my tongue.

The UNL student newspaper the Daily Nebraskan had a reporter at the end of day debriefing meeting where we all told about our experiences. A young woman named Alana in our group stood up and told everyone about Mr. Kintner's comment. Still, I called the DN and made sure they knew about it, and the editor sounded very interested. However I have been quite disappointed to have been unable to find any coverage of the lobby day in the DN, or any other Nebraska paper.

Senator Kintner had told us he has no children, and it is my opinion that he also has no sense of moral responsibility for his fellow man. Unless you count moral responsibility as exclusively whatever is perceived to affect pocketbooks and his re-election chances. And yet this man holds a "public service" role.

Here in the very religious and conservative red state of Nebraska we have a low population, and for the most part Nebraskans live by modest means relative to the rest of the nation. Term limits in our unicameral keep members of our small state legislature from becoming too entrenched and powerful. Kintner is a freshman senator who rode in on a wave of support from Christian conservatives. Yet I predict that his time in office is going to be a painfully long one for those Christians who follow Jesus' "whatever you do for the least of my brothers" rule (Matthew 25:40).

Mr. Kintner is endorsed by Nebraska Right to Life and he believes abortion should be legal in NO cases.

"We just can't afford to save those lives" indeed.

19. It already has another name

antisocial personality disorder:
a condition characterized by repetitive behavioral patterns that are contrary to usual moral and ethical standards and cause a person to experience continuous conflict with society. Symptoms include aggression, callousness, impulsiveness, irresponsibility, hostility, a low frustration level, marked emotional immaturity, and poor judgment. A person who has this disorder overlooks the rights of others, is incapable of loyalty to others or to social values, is unable to experience guilt or to learn from past behaviors, is impervious to punishment, and tends to rationalize his or her behavior or to blame it on others. Also called antisocial reaction.

23. State senators run on a non-partisan ballot, but each and every one of them has a declared party

affiliation that is listed on their bios. Everyone knows who the Republicans are and who the Dems are, etc. anyway. State Republican and Democratic parties are very open about making endorsements in case there is ever any doubt. The non-partisan thing is primarily a matter of how the names are listed on the ballot.

Atlas Shrugged, Minority Report, and Logan's Run. Just a haven where the rich rule, there's a constant police surveillance state, and old people are killed after they turn 35. I think that's what they are going for.

Oh and throw in a bit of "The Scarlet Letter" and "Mad Max" for good measure.

So, when you actually ask him a real question that kind of undermines his whole platform, you're being confrontational, but when he says something morally reprehensible like "we can't afford to save those lives" he gets a pass.

13. more Proof that the GOP is a Hive of Psychopaths.

really i mean it, the proof is that they never do anything that cause millions of people to suffer this is serious

everyone needs to read the book Political Ponerology: the study of evil as applied to politics. cheap on amazon. and "Snakes in Suits"

the GOP leadership has been taken over by Psychopaths, The NeoCons. you will notice that all the NeoCons were students, if not Disciples of Leo Straus.
http://doggo.tripod.com/doggchrisdomin.html

everybody needs to study up on Psychopaths, psychopaths are a sub species of Humans actually 'Humanoid', an they are Apex Predators. Dr Hare is the authority on them he created the test it identify them. average people can not identify a psychopath until they destroy your life, but psychopaths can identify each other and live in Hives. a 2 year old psychopath can identify other psychopaths.. Bu$h43 is a psychopath.. he destroyed the economy of the entire world, simply to make his fellow psychopaths richer. the back 1/3 of of the book '911 the Ultimate Truth' 2nt revision. has a break down of what who and how they work. these creatures are so weird and strange a lot of people think that they are the Archons, inter dimentional parasites, described in the NaG Hammadi Gnostic Scriptures from 450 AD. once you learn more about them you wont think that idea is too far out anymore.

20. And the big failure of liberals is our inability to contain these psychopaths.

We liberals have a seriously good thing going on... freedom, adventurous spirits, inquisitiveness, intellectual and contemplative pursuits, workable and equitable economic ideas, ecologically sound ideas for businesses and living in harmony with our environment, progress, peace, justice, fairness, compassion, a deep respect for truth over our own self-interest, and so on and so on. And yet we are overrun by greedy, selfish, narcissistic, authoritarian assholes almost everywhere we go. We had a big break in the 20th century but we are watching it being torn asunder before our very eyes. And we had only just started.

I have no idea what it would take to rid this world of the right wing ideological bullshit that is killing us. You can't force someone to care, only to behave. And that's sort of the antithesis of the freedom we all cherish. And exactly what these conservative freaks are so willing to do.

24. YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH!!!!!

I read up on everything Dr Robert Hare had to say some 16 years ago. I was caught in a situation with someone I was very close to and could not for the life of me figure out what was going on. So I started reading everything on abnormal psychology I could get my hands on at the library. I will definitely pick up the two books you mentioned and read them from cover to cover. A couple other books folks could add to their reading list on this subject is People of the Lie, and The Sociopath Next Door.

Don't know much about those creatures you spoke of at the last of your message, though. And know nothing about brain scans, either.

But I do know that sociopaths and psychopaths are pure evil.

If the repugs get their way an eliminate abortion within 9 - 12 months they will bring them back because the amount of babies born in the system They will not be able to afford. Texas is realizing this right now. Funny how quickly God gets tossed aside when money is involved.

Make abortion illegal.
Cut all funding to help any poor children or families.
It wont matter to them that more are dying from lack of help.
They will just pretend it isn't really happening or they deserve it.

Write a letter to the editor of the biggest newspaper in your state. Or opinion letter
If there is a newspaper in the district that he represents, write a letter informing those people too.

Call radio stations in your state and let them know about that conversation.

52. double-checked my math and sent this to the OWH. Somebody please tell me if they see it published.

LB 577 extends Medicaid coverage to 54,000 low-income people in Nebraska. For every 175 people who gain Medicaid coverage, one death is prevented, so more than 300 Nebraskan lives will be saved if this bill passes.

But when eight of us traveled to the capitol seeking his support on Feb 12, Senator Bill Kintner (R-D2) said, “We just can’t afford to save those lives.” “Really?” I said. “You won't vote in favor of saving the lives of 300 Nebraskans?"

Kintner, who is endorsed by Nebraska Right to Life, said NO.

LB 577 is pro-life, pro-family and pro-child legislation that will be 100% paid for by the federal government through 2016, and 90% paid by the federal government after that.

Can someone please explain to Mr. Kintner that “pro-life” means in favor of life?!!

Mr. Kintner, please tell us what else God said when he told you whose life was worth saving and whose wasn't.
