Would The Gun Debate Have Been Any Different If "Gabby" Had Been A Hard Right Republican?

Any thoughts? "Gabby" and the victims of the massacres have been so savaged by the NRA and GOP since they have become active for "gun safety". The GOP has never lost one of its own. And it is interesting that even after Reagan was shot the GOP still resisted gun legislation. Yes they helped pass an assault rifle ban but they put a sunset on it. And they have no intention of renewing it.

1. Nope - if the Right Wingers can savage an ultra-conservative

like Chuck Hagel just because he didn't toe the line on one issue, I don't think Gabby Giffords being a moderate to conservative Democrat or a right winger would have made a difference.

4. Reagan and Ford don't count?

Serious? Or do you just have a short memory?

5. James Brady comes to mind.

He was Assistant to the President for Reagan and was shot in the head. He is a founder of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

7. Uh, you do know why the Brady Center is named that?

Brady was standing near Reagan when both were shot. Hence, a GOP-founded, GOP-led gun-control group often sourced in debates about guns.

9. Which is generally attacked

by the NRA and its supporters.

I don't think it matters much who gets shot or why, in terms of anti-gun regulation rhetoric. To the NRA, anyone advocating gun control is de facto the enemy.

11. And those who support 2A from bans are...

called... Well, I'll let you tour the archives of DU for some of the...stuff... Which survived alerts.

Otherwise, I tend to agree with you.

12. Briedbart: “We outnumber them [liberals] in this country, and we have the guns.”

Not much for grave dancing, but let's face facts -- the majority of gun cultists in this country think like Briedbart when it comes to their guns and politics.
