The stupidity and time wasting continues.
A Republican House member wants the state to get rid of daylight saving time, but only if 20 other states agree to do the same.
The House Emerging Issues in Agriculture Committee held a hearing on the measure this week. The sponsor, Rep. Delus Johnson, of St. Joseph, says theres no real reason to continue observing daylight saving time.
But Missouri Broadcasters Association president Mark Gordon says TV stations would be at a disadvantage with the proposed time change. He says network programming and live sports broadcasts would have to air at abnormal times to be in sync with the rest of the country.
The committee did not vote on the legislation.

(12,723 posts)I hate DST. I honestly think it is mostly designed so we spend months of the year trying to readjust our mental clocks.
Antiquated meaningless waste of time in our modern 24 hour world.

(23,156 posts)splitting the difference and resetting our clocks by a half hour and keep the same time year around.
I'm guessing that guy isn't old enough to remember when states and even local jurisdictions all had different dates of going on and off daylight savings time. I am. What a nightmare.
Actually, the main problem is that it begins too early in the year and ends too late. It would be more sensible to begin at the end of March or middle of April, and end at the end of September, maybe the middle of October. Alas, I don't get to make the rules.

(94,452 posts)I'd much rather have daylight later in the evening, even if its dark in the morning.

(96,793 posts)And our kids go home in the dark in standard time. In the winter. I hate that more.

(45,274 posts)In more northerly climes, it's still light at 9 on DST in the summer. What's wrong with it being dark at 8?
Farmers have always hated DST, BTW. "Try & explain it to the cows," they say.

(14,061 posts)...having that extra bit of daylight at 8 is a good thing. Right now I am counting the days until the time change because I'm sick and tired of early darkness and want to get back to some kind of safe, outside exercise routine when I get home from work, which often isn't until after 6 some days.

(1,273 posts)but politicians seem to treat it like a sacred cow. I was really irked when W moved the dates again. Now we have "standard time" for only four months a year?

(29,414 posts)or are you in favor of keeping this antiquated concept?
Personally, I'm all for getting rid of Daylight Slaving Time permanently. I may not have true Flex-Time now, but have had it in the past and that alone eliminates DST.
I am literally tired of federally-mandated jet-lag twice a year!

(14,061 posts)I'm not for it.
We lived here (Indy) when the time did not change, back in the mid-90s. It was full-on dark at 8 p.m., even in summer. I still remember the receptionist where I worked at the time having long, drawn-out discussions with callers about why Indiana was still on standard time when everybody else was on daylight time.
I don't even think moving Indianapolis to central time is a good idea.

(20,776 posts)If we do this, we will all have to sync our clocks, because some places are still living like its still 1864. (I kid!!)
