NEW YORK — Trayvon Martin's family is marking the one-year anniversary of his shooting death with a candlelight vigil in New York City.

Martin's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, are scheduled to take part in an event this evening at 6 p.m. in Union Square Park, along with their attorneys and others. A moment of silence is scheduled for 7:17 p.m.

The 17-year-old unarmed black teenager was killed Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman after the two got into a confrontation. It took weeks before Zimmerman was arrested, and he has claimed he was acting in self-defense.
