7. omg. ironic. is this for real? speaking of which, i often see typos & such in my local newspaper,

which is shortstaffed & probably relies on spellcheck. i've seen them a lot in paperback novels for a while now -- and of course in anything on the net that's scanned.

but a couple of days ago was a first: a blatant typo in one of those fancy ads in Vogue.

It was one of those ads with pretty pictures and not much text, lots of white space so it stood out a mile.

I can't remember the word, but it was a double-S where there was only supposed to be one S.

something along the lines of 'dissappoint'.

I was kind of shocked, as that's the first typo i've seen in ad copy in an expensive magazine.

I don't think it's because it's any harder to find people who can spell. I think it's just fewer people working on the copy, fewer editors and proofreaders, & relying on computers too much.

It makes me sad. When I was a young person, it was rare to see a typo in a book or magazine. It seems to me it says something about the culture; there is no longer respect for the word among the elites who run things.
