More on John McCain being an astonishing asshole to the mother of a massacre victim

Thomas Teves, right, kisses his wife Caren Teves, center, at a press conference by families of victims of the Colorado theater shooting, in Aurora, Colo., on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. Thomas and Caren Teves lost their son Alexander Teves, 24, in the shooting. Families of some of the 12 people killed in the Colorado theater shooting are upset with the way the millions of dollars raised since the tragedy are being distributed.

Aurora Victim’s Mom Calls McCain Town Hall ‘Appalling’
By David Taintor
TPM

February 22, 2013

The mother of a young man killed in the Aurora, Colo. movie theater massacre told TPM on Thursday she was appalled at the way Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) handled her question about an assault weapons ban at a town hall event in Phoenix.

“I was very surprised that a senator, who has been in office for over 30 years, would address a grieving mother, who just lost her son exactly seven months prior — yesterday was the 20th, I lost my son on 7-20-2012 — to tell me that I needed ‘some straight talk,’” Caren Teves said by phone.

At Wednesday’s town hall, Teves told McCain that her son, Alex, was killed in the massacre, and she urged the senator to support a ban on assault weapons. McCain responded: “I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States.”

The crowd, many of whom appeared to be pro-gun, burst into cheers and applause at McCain’s comments. But Teves said she wasn’t phased by that, and those cheers, as captured by a local TV news crew, were only part of the story.

The rest: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/02/mccain-gun-control-aurora-mother.php

I had a thread about this yesterday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022408285

...in which I said:

He's probably right about the ban not getting through Congress (especially the House), but what kind of soulless, heartless, wretched, vomitous, gruesome, ghoulish piece of rancid flyblown shit tells a woman who lost her son in a massacre that she "needs some straight talk."

Oh, right, it's John McCain.

The pluperfect turd.

I shit on John McCain from great height.

some of the help he probably needed. He also has a reputation as a loose cannon it seems forever. His experience plus that it seems to me at least must have created so much psychological trauma.

McCain lost to Bush in 2001, and he was pissed, but he knew his time was coming. He was a war hero, he'd suffered, he waited his turn.

And then that illegitimate %^^%$^%$ Obama stole McCain's precious. Its eating him alive. And he hates the country for letting Obama have what was rightfully his.

I dislike McCain and all, but he was shot down, ejected and landed in a pond surrounded by locals who were pissed off at being bombed.

He had numerous broken bones also so I don't see how escape and evasion was an option.

Was he supposed to kill himself not to get caught?

The person who made that comment seems to think McCain didn't follow proper procedures under those circumstances, and it apparently wasn't the first time McCain had failed to do so.

McCain had a history of crashing/damaging planes, and it wasn't unusual for him to break the rules. He had a short fuse and many didn't want to have anything to do with him because of it. All pilots were taught tactics to evade being shot down, and it wasn't unusual for McCain to not follow the rules.

I wasn't there and neither were you, and I didn't challenge him for further details, but he isn't the only one who served with McCain who feels this way.

Except for the mission he was shot down. That was against a heavily defended power plant.

From Wiki: John McCain's capture and subsequent imprisonment began on October 26, 1967. He was flying his 23rd bombing mission over North Vietnam when his A-4E Skyhawk was shot down by a missile over Hanoi.[33][34] McCain fractured both arms and a leg ejecting from the aircraft,[35] and nearly drowned when he parachuted into Truc Bach Lake.[33] Some North Vietnamese pulled him ashore, then others crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt and bayoneted him.[33] McCain was then transported to Hanoi's main Hoa Lo Prison, nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton.

This is the first time I got the full context of who asked the question and how it was handled. This makes it beyond shameful but that's par for the course with Grumps these days. He's all in for himself now...narcissism on a grand scale. He doesn't stand for anything other than what tickles his distorted and vainglorious fancy. The dude was rejected for President and he's out to punish any and all who did this "wrong" to him. The bastard is souless...
