Norquist: Republicans Will Impeach Obama If He Doesn’t Extend Bush Tax Cuts

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/01/29/414010/norquist-republicans-will-impeach-obama-if-he-doesnt-extend-bush-tax-cuts/

Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist has long held a tight grip on the marionette strings of the GOP. Wielding undue influence as the head of the Americans for Tax Reform, Norquist ensures that Republican lawmakers sign his anti-tax pledge and threatens them with electoral defeat should they even think of deviating from it. Norquist has marked a successful few years, killing the deficit super committee agreement, batting down a tax increase on millionaires, and, of course, ensuring the extension of the Bush tax cuts.

Pleased with his headway, Norquist is now mapping out how he can ensure further anti-tax victories by securing Republican majorities. In an interview with the National Journal, he mused that a GOP mandate would obviously enact an extension of the Bush tax cuts, work to maintain a repatriation holiday for corporate profits, and even pass House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan that jeopardizes Medicare. But when asked what Republicans should do if faced with a Democratic majority that won’t keep the tax cuts, Norquist had a simple answer: “impeach” Obama.

enough to win, when we lose we will force the winners out.

That should go over well.

Edited to add; guess I'd better vote for the muffin man cause I'm so askeered!

Pretty sure that refusing to extend tax cuts for millionaires doesn't rise to the level of an impeachable offense.

His entirely reasonable response - a dead body beats the hell out of both of them.

Do you - does ANYONE - really, seriously, honestly think that these Republicans BELIEVE any of this stuff they say, any more than a parrot does?

He means what he says - given the power, he will do something bad to Obama. If labeling that thing "impeachment" makes it even a few percent more likely to be gotten away with than another label, then impeachment it is. Who cares about the dictionary definition, let alone some old dead document? Documents can't fight back.

4. Whatever the new tax proposals are, I'd add an extra 2%. Call it the Norquist surcharge.

hell, he even makes Gingrich look humble by comparison, he does bring up a point.

We're about to have some really nasty fights over tax breaks, and while he's talking about the one at the end of the year, there's a big fat one coming in the next four weeks. Since the primary/caucus season will be noticeably cooling down, expect 75% of the political news you read during February to be about what will have to be given up to 'pay' for a ten month extension of UC benefits, FICA tax holiday, and doc fix.
