(38,437 posts)Stewart and Colbert are excellent at analyzing the news in their own styles, but without some knowledge of the news prior to watching, you will get a distorted view.

(4,252 posts)but for those people who don't watch news or read news it is better than reading those stupid chain emails.
If they are in groups who do watch Stewart and Colbert there may be some discourse among their peers.

(75,480 posts)I don't consider them well informed, but it's just that Jon and Steve distill the double speak into something they understand. We would have many more Tea Partyers if it weren't for them. They really are heroes.

(81,110 posts)Amazing it has to come from an outfit that calls itself "Comedy Central." But thank God we have them both!

(81,110 posts)Glad you're here! You make a good point, too. It's tragi-comedy at best. They should count themselves fortunate that I'M not president.

(81,110 posts)That's a great way to put it, too, Animal Chin!
"Sad state of affairs when we get our news from Comedy Central and our comedy from Fox News."

(12,797 posts)... but the news is real; they just cut through the doublespeak and highlight the hypocrisy. What they do involves more journalism than so many so-called" "news" shows who parrot stuff in a he-said-she-said format.

(32,723 posts)But every one of them milks the government for everything they can get.
If not for themselves than for some major company in their state. In return, they get kickbacks in the form of "campaign contributions" which is nothing but bribery.

(34,405 posts)When she showed that his house in his middle class neighborhood is now up for sale (at just under $700k in a moderately priced Miami, by the way).
A minute earlier he talked about his retiree neighbors on Soc Sec in any attempt to show how he is just like you (calling Christine O'Donnell!). A minute later he was decrying govt. programs. I guess govt programs are good only if they are helping people who are props in your Everyman story. Same problem that Paul Ryan had.

(75,480 posts)All these Republican cons are living on government subsidies of some sort or the other, paid for by tax payers, all the way up to the Koch brothers. They know that when they are in charge they never will lift taxes on the poor and middle class, but they will make sure the taxpayers get no benefits from the taxes either. It's just them who will benefit. It's really their game plan. Big oil and industry will get all the subsidies and tax loopholes they can get their paid for legislators to pass. The savings will be passed on to their overpaid executives and stockholders as profits. They will keep the money for themselves while they look for more government money to now feed on. This is why they are after Social Security and Medicare, the last government money they haven't been able to raid for their benefit.

(31,374 posts)It's that simple. If whatever government service doesn't do that...well, of course
it's unnecessary.

(25,020 posts)The mob weren't nice folks by any stretch but I think there cut would be above the TeaPubliKlans, they at least weren't granny starving assholes robbing the poor.
Probably a case could be made that the most people were in less danger, more secure, and less likely to have their lives intruded on with organized crime than disorganized crime and the response to it but that is another issue and one best dealt with by ending vice laws and enforcement.

(26,598 posts)and we finally got Comedy Central. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. When Colbert started his own show, I admit at times I just didn't get him. Now, Stephen is my favorite, although I never miss the Daily Show either.
