Bastrop, Texas pastor charged with animal cruelty over death of neighbor's cat
Posted on January 23, 2012 at 9:19 PM
Updated Tuesday, Jan 24 at 8:10 AM BASTROP, Texas -- A Central Texas pastor is being accused of throwing a neighbor's cat off of a bridge. Rick Bartlett, pastor of the Bastrop Christian Church, is facing animal cruelty charges. Bastrop Police Chief Michael Black said Bartlett admitted that he caught the cat, named Moody, in a trap on Sunday, Jan. 15. Bartlett told them that he was having a problem with feral cats in his garden. Moody also told police that he had the cat in a cage in the back of his pick-up truck for three days and forgot about him until Tuesday, Jan. 17., when Bartlett brought the cat to police. An animal control officer noticed a name tag including the phone number of Moody’s owners, Sarah and Eddy Bell, on the cat's collar. The officer offered to take Moody back to his owners but police said Bartlett told them he’d take the cat back himself since they were his neighbors. Later on the same day, a park visitor discovered Moody’s near lifeless body on the bank of the Colorado River, some 40-50 feet below a bridge. ![]() More: http://www.kvue.com/news/Bastrop-Pastor-charged-with-Cruelty-to-Animals-over-Neighbors-cat-death-137934273.html

Not a bit surprised. There are some really sick clowns in that state. I am honestly fearful driving through it, which I seem to have to do all too often, unfortunately.

And like I've said before, there would be a church looking for a new fucking pastor if this happened to my guy (who looks heartbreakingly like Moody). I'm sorry if this is extreme, but I would sodomize that fucker, tell him he was now unclean, and remind him, just before I ripped the last life from his battered body, that this means that he's going to hell. With the other sodomites. A pastor! That church should be letter bombed - I'd like to know how his congregation feels about having such a piece of shit for a pastor. |

a little cayenne pepper goes a long way. He saw that tag on the cat, probably knew it belonged to his neighbor. I guess this is one pastor that believes humans are superior and all animals are for humans to mistreat-they are not god's creatures, they are just things to be used and killed; of course, that's after you let them suffer for awhile.

As fascinating as this is as a case study, you haven't made a single reasonable point.
You seem to asserting that cat-lovers (and please, go find a dictionary and look up 'oxymoron') are assembling cat armies bent on 'usurping and stealing others' property.' Mercenary, expendable cats soldiers lawlessly taking over and ruining your life by pooping on your lawn? Really? Reposting your final paragraph, which sums up your position: "They can't be stopped from their behavior. They psychotically believe they are doing "god's work" for themselves. So you must destroy their cats. It's the ONLY solution." You should consider seeking help. Professional help. Disclaimer: I do not have any cats. |

40. Oh, I see, attempting to make a cogent point now, are we?
Cats allowed to roam free are particularly dangerous to songbirds and small animals. That is absolutely the case.
That however, is a markedly different argument than "Greedy, evil cat-lovers are stealing my property." Also not the same as defending some piece of garbage torturing and killing an innocent animal. So, which is it? (Oh, and the 'pathetically ignorant dipshit' thing... you might also consider reading DU's community standards after you're done checking out the definition of oxymoron, FYI.) |

There is another possibility, and that is that you are deliberately being as rude as you can be because you are goading people and want to see what you can get away with.
No matter what the reason, it would behoove you to try to be as respectful as possible to people on this board. If not, I don't think your time here will be extensive. Showing respect is more of a reflection about your character than it is about who you how respect to. I could answer you the way you have addressed others. That would require that I lower my grammar and vocabulary to an unacceptable level. It would only give you satisfaction to find me at your level. Enjoy your stay here, bless your heart. |

They don't care about your life nor any other animals at all, not even their own cats. They only care about what they can accomplish for themselves with their cats. Proved time and time and time again and again. They only want to control and ruin your life with their cats. ![]() |

79. I don't let my cats outdoors.
There are all kinds of reasons not to do it. It shortens their lifespans, recruits fleas, and results in the needless killing of birds and other animals. When you let your cat out in residential area, you are gambling with its life and taking a liberty with other people's property. Sometimes the gamble doesn't pay off.
I think the Bartlett guy obviously deserves punishment, maybe a lawsuit too. But the cat's owners also have a share of the responsibility. |

82. The guy crossed from addressing a problem to WANTON animal cruelty
My cat doesn't go outside unsupervised, either. It's an almost 100% stable environment - should anything arise, I'm there to let any unexpected element know that I am the biggest, baddest part of any equation. Nothing has ever gone wrong.
But leaving a cat in a cage with no food or water for three days? WANTON ANIMAL CRUELTY. At least under a "res ipsa loquitur" viewpoint, the cat ending crushed on the rocks below? WANTON ANIMAL CRUELTY. And the way it sounds, this "Pastor" is on the hook, as the animal was entrusted to his care. This is the kind of crap that needs to put someone in jail for two solid years. When we start treating this stuff seriously, we let people know this stuff is serious. It's a fucking life, damnit. And I can't write what my feelings are about the life that beats within that Godless devilspawn of a "pastor." If someone hasn't already, PLEASE, SOMEONE SET 4CHAN ON HIS ASS. Not a part of the internet I frequent, but from what I understand, they seem to be damn effective in this regard. And if they are, unleash those motherfucking hounds. |

85. I figured out why this news story was confusing the crap out of me, finally. Woulda seen it sooner
were it not for the flat-out absurdly ridiculous trollosity in this thread, which has been already attended to at length.
I swear, I had to read this story four or five times, because it didn't make any sense.
No, no. Moody was the cat. Moody the cat did not speak to the police posthumously. Now I get it it. |

89. Besides his obsession with the furry felines...
the kerap he was saying about the underlying motives of feral cat rescuers, comparisons to "uneducated" inner-city youth and "rock-throwing" in the ME ... it was disturbing to watch that guy in action, and even more disturbing to wonder what sort of damage he really does in his own neighborhood.
Cat armies, at the woodsman's mercy. I read a bit at Huff Post about the Moody murder case and clicked on to other links, where members of the guy's congregation appear to be waging a biblical defense of the pastor's cruelty, online. Some pretty nasty, off-the-wall stuff directed at other commenters, too, so even tho our troll claimed to have proof of his heathenism (whatever that could have been), I still think he may have had ties to the actual case, somehow. |

92. I had to reply to the kvue thread....I'm so sick of these christofascists
This scum of the earth is a PASTOR. That means, not that he is a "man of god" (for those who believe in an anthropomorphized authoritarian diety), but that he CONNED people into ELEVATING him to a higher status, sanctified and licensed to lecture them on how to live and be properly obedient. That's some EGO, right there. Cruelty, ego, poor impulse control, acting out, disregard for others, acting out, lack of conscience, control issues=Small town pastor, perfect job for a sociopath. it is SO easy for truly sick people to take on some mantle of power by means of these FUCKWAD FUNDIE EVANGELICAL churches. There is nothing "godly" about them, they are wholly a creation of people...people taking power over other people to make people serve the ideology. Religion should be the other way around---to SERVE people and help us navigate in the real world; to grow and improve ourselves, to honor and bring forth our best self. I have known too many sick fucks using small town small church positions of small power--power to preach to others, which they positively EAT UP. Never mind that they are selfish, twisted, hateful and/or ignorant in their daily lives. The mark of a truly good person is in how they treat other people and living creatures, not in how well they turn a FUCKING [strike]BABLE[/strike] BIBLE PHRASE! (excuse me for screaming.) Speaking of the "sacred", the "holy", the "sanctified", raising human belief and behavior to some intimate connection with a concept of divinity is a magic potion inviting abuse of power, lies, oppression, ignorance and a sea of other evils into our daily lives and giving it the veil of normalcy. |
