East Tennessee man kills wife, 2 children, self

ERWIN, Tenn. — Police say an East Tennessee man has killed his wife, his two children and himself.

Erwin Police Chief Reagan Tilson told WJHL-TV that officers got a call around 2 a.m. Saturday from "a wounded person" at an apartment complex in the city. Tilson said it appears that the man fatally shot his wife and children before taking his own life.

Tilson said his agency would not release identities until all next of kin was notified, and directed further questions to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm confirmed the information, but said the agency wasn't immediately releasing more details.

If a woman lives with any history of abuse, her chances & family of being shot and killed go up to 500%

"They're all in a better place now", as though none of the misery you allude to, sasha031, or the horror of their last few minutes matters at all now that it's "all done and over with".

There's even kind of a pity high, I'd bet, people get on about this sort of thing and think themselves good compassionate souls because they feel soooooooooooooooooo sorry for people like this. Then that emotional buzzzzzzz wears itself out and it's back to normal assuming that the woman's abuse is earned somehow and "too bad about those kids, but life goes on ..." as if those people and their agony don't mean anything at all. I really feel that there are too many social institutions, including religion especially which is supposed to be responsible for our better natures, that just reinforce our worst responses to these lives of unmitigated tragedy.

Some blame the economy, I feel there is something far more sinister going on.

I've read posts where men now clean their guns or threaten to shoot the women's children and pets in order to intimidate now a days.
There is no way that I was alluding to that this poor woman and her children are in a better place.

I only imagine the horrors that these victims face on a daily basis, as if fists weren't bad enough. Guns add a whole new dimension to our violent society.
I just wish any and all women would run for their lives when there is a gun in the house.

The proliferation of guns does make it a lot more deadly though. Especially when the abusive assholes decide that the best place to kill their wives is at work, which has happened a few times in recent years.

will help fortify the public will to insist on gun management and force corporate responsibility of the industry that makes it possible. Who can measure the senseless, lost potential to our society of four human beings? But we can surely measure the vehicle and the cost to the public of that loss. ($175 billion per year)

"This" meaning a man murders his wife, girlfriend, or ex... not sure how often they also murder their children or any other relatives.

Here's one more from the wee hours of this morning.

If we can't tell before hand who should not have a gun, then perhaps we should make it very difficult for anyone to have a gun. I am actually ok with hunters and target shooters. But, perhaps they could keep their guns off premise and not in their homes. I think the bar for having a gun in your house should be rather high.

What a load of horseshit. And I'm sure the guy was a law-abiding, responsible gun-owner until the moment he blew his family away.

You are more likely to die at the hand of a gun if there is one in the house or in this case, an apartment.

The pro-gun people conveniently ignore it, deny it or argue about it.

It's like this show I saw where they were looking for a missing kid. They go to the city morgue and ask, "Just how many 12-year-old John Does can you have back there?" and the jaded clerk says, "You really don't want to know."

According to all of the gun apologists out there, this is okay.

I sincerely wish that the ONLY people who were killed with guns were those who think that we should all be armed, because then eventually they'd all kill each other off. Unfortunately, an awful lot of innocents are murdered along the way. But that's just fine, because second amendment, don't ya know.

I am in support of taking away all of the guns from everyone.
