Nancy Pelosi may destroy the entire GOP with a single wave of her wand

There seems to be a very persistent belief in some Republican and conservative circles that Nancy Pelosi is in possession of secret and damning information about Newt Gingrich that would immediately cause his presidential race to implode if she leaked it.

There is no such information. The whole thing is pure fantasy.

The latest to grab onto this conspiracy theory is Mitt Romney. To explain this clearly, a recap is in order.

Yesterday, Pelosi told CNN in an offhand comment that Gingrich will never be president, because “there’s something that I know.” Drudge madly flacked this “revelation“ with a massive headline claiming: “PELOSI THREAT: NEWT WON’T BE PRESIDENT.”

Romney today grabbed on to this one, too. Undaunted by the fact that the probe is already public, he went further still, calling for the release of “all of the records that were part of the ethics investigation, all of the transcripts.” It’s unclear whether such records exist, but as Jed Lewison notes, Pelosi plainly didn’t mean anything secretive with her comments to CNN. While her wording was clumsy, the notion that she’s in possession of any secret info about Newt is just daft.

I can't believe he doesn't see that this rumor plays right into Romney and the GOP establishment's hands, because it might make people afraid to vote for Newt? He's making them sound like they're "crazy" but in fact it's perfectly rational for them to be spreading this rumor.

7. I suspect that "what she knows" is Gingrich's personality.

He is a nut, and she knows it.

Romney is half-way sane, but an extremely weak man.

8. I think this says more about the Repub party than Pelosi

I mean, it's obvious Pelosi is baiting them and Romney--apparently not the brightest thinker--fell for it hook, line and sinker. I'm sure Newt's people are looking under rocks for what Nancy is eluding to...again. He already took the bait when she first brought up the Ethics Committee probe. And yet, they keep falling for it.

Plus, rank and file Repubs (the people's) just hate Nancy--which shows us how much power she really holds if they're that afraid of her.

9. I'm thinking the Republicans will leak whatever it is

and blame Pelosi. Perfect opportunity for them to get rid of Newt and place the blame for revealing sealed evidence and/or testimony on Democratic dirty tricks.
