(2,208 posts)Every person who has ever died ever, started out coming from a vagina.
EVERY SINGLE ONE!
Not every gun has been used to kill a person, however.
Therefore, vaginas are more dangerous than guns...

(33,982 posts)I see this among a lot of my gun-owning friends. Same for me. I support registration and some regulations on mag capacity. I even support moving semi-auto's to the NFA registry.
If we keep this in the middle, around stuff that actually keeps guns out of the hands of dangerous people, you won't lose a shitload of voters along the way, and we'll get something meaningful out of all this effort.
Not something like the 1994 CAWB that was easily worked around and pissed off consumers/voters. But something that can reasonably make inroads in keeping felons and people adjudicated mentally ill (at least temporarily), and people with restraining orders from possessing firearms. Something that corks the straw purchase path to guns moving directly into the hands of criminals, or over the border into Mexico. Something that can actually save lives.
I'm not opposed to any and all regulation, and neither are my friends. This CAN be done, without the threat of political fallout at the polls later on. I don't know anyone that isn't currently willing to meet in the middle somewhere on this. Nor do I know anyone on-board with the rhetoric coming out of the NRA of late.

(30,252 posts)Are women citizens or not? Are they not subject to equal protection or not? 19th Amendment, for starters? Hello? Anyone?
Maybe more women should learn how to shoot so that they can help drive the point home. I'll even let them borrow my Kalashnikov.

(33,982 posts)Sorry, I live in a state that explicitly protects a woman's right to choose, and other strong protections around reproductive freedom, etc. I sometimes forget how 'good' we have it here, and how much of an issue that is, nationally.
We can do both, firearms controls, AND respect women, nationwide, you're absolutely right.
