The first "1090 the Fan" station ID has been played...RIP Seattle's Progressive Talk

(edited from the original)

Here's to CBS owned KPTK "Seattle's Progressive Talk AM 1090", ?/?/2004-1/1/2013 now with new life as KFNQ "1090 the Fan" since 1/2/13. And F.U. CBS Radio and Clear Channel (which surprisingly canned Portland 620 KPOJ's prog talk format that had been around since '04). You just can't trust Big Media.

(Station ID at ~10pm PT = "Seattle's Progressive Talk". Still playing Malloy this hour.)

(on edit) KLAY 1180 will add the Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartmann shows on tape delay: Steph from 3-5pm, Thom from 5-7pm, staring Jan. 7. Meanwhile, non-commercial KBCS 91.3 will start carrying the non-commercial version of Thom Hartmann live noon-3pm starting Wednesday!

(edit late 11pm hour) TuneIn.com already has renamed its entry for AM 1090 as "1090 the Fan". The station is finishing the Malloy show. Instead of the usual Thom Hartmann replay at midnight expect sports talk. I'm a sports fan myself but am disgusted with CBS targeting AM 1090.

KFNQ 1090 in Seattle and XEPRS 1090 in Rosarito, BCN, Mexico (serving the San Diego market) are now both 50 kW day/night sports stations. In my part of northern CA I can hear San Diego 1090's signal at night. I don't know how far Seattle 1090's nighttime signal extends but think it's just the Pacific Northwest to the Alexander Archipelago (southeast Alaska). So no, PNW'ers, you're not hearing a San Diego radio station at night on AM 1090.

Damn! I didn't know!

I confess I haven't listened in a while because I just can't stand commercial formats any longer, but I used to enjoy Thom Hartmann in the morning.

Sports radio... I always thought callers to conservative radio shows were the dumbest on radio, until I listened to sports radio...

Back to NPR, Classic KING FM and podcasts for me.

...and listen to KJFK 1230 out of Reno, which carries all of the weekday hosts that used to be on AM1090. (I got a new car radio that allows me to plug my iPhone in and listen over the car stereo, just like before.) Ditto with a streaming app on your computer.

I'll have to look into that, though my current car stereo (integrated) wouldn't support that.

I've been using a car lately with a USB interface. It provides power and allows a memory stick to be played like a CD, but I don't know if it's smart enough to have it play output from an app as well, but audio input through RCA - AUX should work fine.

Thanks for the tip.

It was CBS Radio, which decided to go all-in on a nationwide sports radio network last year. KPTK was just "collateral damage" of that move.
