Plus, the rich will still be paying low rates on their first 450K.

(39,370 posts)The richest will pay a lot more; an extra $50K on every $1 million of capital gains. Tell them it's not an increase.
woo me with science
(32,139 posts)Not only does this public relations tax increase affect only a small fraction of the wealthy who should be paying, it is insulting in its size and the amount of money it does collect, compared to the amount of money that will be squeezed from Americans who have already been knocked down and robbed over and over and over again.
Look how obscene the numbers are: The new taxes on the top two percent will collect a measly 600 billion dollars, out of more than FOUR TRILLION that the White House seeks to collect over the next decade. Guess who's in line to be soaked for the rest?

What you are seeing is not reality and this 'WE' thing is a bit presumptuous -- this is what you see... I am not a part of this so called we.
With all due respect, your vision problem is not indicative of what happened.

(51 posts)We just saved the "middle class" and the poor got some ladders to fight there way up into it "if their willing to work hard enough at it and share in the sacrifice."
Sitting here waiting for that magic good time work ethic feeling to return and serving my masters while ignoring the little austerity clock behind the curtain...set to ring about two or three months in the future.
I suppose if i was a "middle class pragmatist" i would throw another log on the fire, crank up the Pat Boone music, and toast an eggnog and a little sorbet to the American Dream and another smashing victory for Capitalism.

Against my better radical judgment i spent this last election cycle at the Boston Herald pounding on the heads of Romney,Brown, and all things Republican hoping against hope for a left turn in your party. So you can give this "commie" a pass.

If chained CPI had been part of the final deal, I could see your point.
But it isn't. So I don't.
I like your passion, though! It's tough-to-please progressive people like yourself who will help us halt the rightward swing of the political pendulum and send it swinging back left. So a qualifiedbut nonetheless sincere and heartfeltcheers!
