Stinky The Clown (65,776 posts)
Tim Russert's kid really bothers me.
He is younger than my youngest kid. He is an entitled smart-ass and that comes across loud and clear. Getting straight news from him is, I suppose, tolerable. Having him give his "opinion" to some other moron teevee host is worthless bullshit. Having him "explain" things as if he were knowledgable is insulting to anyone who watches MSNBC (who is likely more informed that he is.)
Listening to him prattle on as MSNBC's Cliff Watch continues is painful.

Anybody looking to mainstream media for real journalism is going to have to wade through a lot of shit before finding a morsel or two of actual journalism. That's just not practiced anymore, if it ever was to any high degree.
TV is about ratings. Profit trumps ... well, everything. Always follow the money. |

I am not against all nepotisim - half the people I work with got their foot in the door because of their parents - but they all started from the ground up. It's quite clear that he understands the issues and dynamics about as well as the average viewer, meaning less well than many.

While I didn't necessarily agree with Tim Russert on many issues, I respected him. I thought he did an admirable job of being an objective journalist. But his son is either too ideological to be a competent "journalist" or simply too young and too inexperienced for his job.

He doesn't have to talk to them like Andy Hardy would to Judge Hardy's peers, he doesn't have to call Alex Witt "Ms Witt," but for godssakes don't talk to people who've invested a lifetime into a career in journalism like you're on equal footing. It degrades them and it degrades viewers' relationship to and reliance on the "4th estate." |

42. He is a classic example of someone
who gets a job because of their name, or who they know. If he'd actually had to do the hard work of journalism, he'd be lucky to be doing the obits in Paducah, KY, And I do think that Paducah is a lovely city -- I've been there and liked it. But I'm using it as the stand-in for the kind of out-of-the-way nothing sort of place he'd be in if he actually got a job on his own merit.
And I couldn't stand the father, either, and was quite appalled at how he was canonized when he died. |

59. So, so glad I'm not alone
When he comes on I have to either fast-forward or change the channel. He reminds of a 12 year old who gets to sit at the adult's table and tries to act like a grown up. You can tell he practices in front of the mirror to look more serious and authoritative. He does this funny little thing with his eye brows and it is so goofy.
He looks like a SNL sketch of an inexperienced, privileged son of a famous television personality. I'm afraid this kid will NEVER be ready for prime time. If he wants to be a journalist, maybe he needs to go out in the world and earn the right to be in front of a camera. I wonder what his more experienced colleagues say about him behind his back. |

He's in over his head. It is painful. He'll never grow because
he'll never be forced to figure anything out, never raise his standards. Sad. NBC should have given him an 18 month internship. Peter Jennings was a laughing stock in the mid-60s as anchor. Only there because of his famous Canadian broadcasting father. He had to go out and do hard news for years before returning to a triumphant career. |
