Do you think F47 will use the Insurrection Act (1807) to declare martial law between April 20 and April 26, 2025?

Executive order issued Jan. 20, 2025: "Within 90 days of the date of this proclamation [deadline: April 20, 2025], the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall submit a joint report to the President about the conditions at the southern border of the United States and any recommendations regarding additional actions that may be necessary to obtain complete operational control of the southern border, including whether to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807."

Maybe, but his base doesn't need any kind of credible argument. They just need to see him say it is so. Walleye Apr 17 #4

He still will need a "trigger event" to implement the IA to make a credible argument to his base.

even if it's a lie. His base still interacts with normal people, and they want to at least say something. Even Hitler needed the Reichstag fire.

Imagine him trying to implement say, a 10pm curfew. Every bar in the nation would outright defy him.
He can claim this all he wants, but there simply aren't enough cops.

It would be illegal and un-constitutional, the Insurrection Act would be neither authorization nor justification.

But Trump doesn’t care about the Constitution or law, and will again ignore the Supreme Court.

It will then depend on how the states and military respond.

Throughout American history, the federal and state governments have declared martial law over 60 times. The Constitution of the United States does not define martial law and is silent as to who can impose it. However, the modern interpretation allows the president and state officials to declare "degrees of martial law in specific circumstances."
