(45,274 posts)even though we don't have life memberships?
Kinda like Abby Hoffman's old idea about gluing the postage-paid return envelope onto a brick & mailing it

(124 posts)Should we join those calling for vigilantes to kill NRA members too?...that sounds like fun.

(14,624 posts)The idea was to write letters canceling non-existent NRA memberships . . . what in the world are you referring to?
Chemisse
(30,807 posts)That seems a little extreme.

(27,711 posts)Great idea! I mean, what's a little vandalism when the end justifies the means?

REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)
YOUR COMMENTS:
"Should we join those calling for vigilantes to kill NRA members too?...that sounds like fun." - Over-the-top, crazy talk.
JURY RESULTS
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Tue Dec 18, 2012, 12:44 AM, and voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: seems like the guy was being sarcastic
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No need for violent talk at this time. I'm not sure it's a joke and not funny in any event.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: This is obviously sarcasm which sometimes needs to be a little extreme in its approach. This member has been here for a couple of weeks and although I do not personally agree with the stance taken, it does not merit hiding.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: DU should never host posts advocating murder or anyone.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: Newbie needs to read DU's terms of service. Talk of violence, even sarcastically, is not acceptable.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Mmmmmeh. It's a leap, but it's hardly worth hiding.
Thank you.

(22,336 posts)How is attaching an envelope to a brick vandalism?
jeff47
(26,549 posts)The person sending out the postage-paid envelope specifies the allowable weight. If you tape it to a brick, the post office throws it away.

It was, even then, a very different NRA.
This is not your parent's NRA.

It will at least be a PITA for both.
Yes childish and inmature, but so what?

(32,078 posts)If it was a one-time thing, I would just keep it, and let them keep mailing you their propaganda. You can put it straight into the recycling bin, without even looking at it. And, the NRA will have just wasted the money it cost to print and mail their crap.
fleur-de-lisa
(14,624 posts)I don't even know what he paid. I kept the membership partly because of your idea . . . to waste the NRA's money.
It turns my stomach now to think that they could count me as a member; well, they did before today. I just can't live with that anymore.

(15,536 posts)Boggles my mind that anyone would shell out that kind of money for that rag of a magazine they send out and the worthless "insurance" on their precious guns.
ComplimentarySwine
(515 posts)I'm pretty sure that the money is primarily for the lobbying, the magazine and insurance is just a perk.

(18,570 posts)keep the membership, they have the money anyway.
Instead when they mail you the ballot for the board vote to change. Encourage every NRA member you know to actually vote for other than who is there now. Force change from within.

Good on you for the effort and message sent to this right wing anachronism.
