Skylar has several videos pleading for help to call senators so that he does not lose his farm. I've seen some posts saying we should show empathy because we will need folks like this on our side. Thoughts??
I have no Fs to give for these folks. If they want my empathy, then they should denounce Everything that POS is doing. Not just their pet cause.

(4,610 posts)I've not heard of one that freezes IRAs. Beyond that, no I have no fucks to give.
Wait my bad. IRA in this case means Inflation Reduction Act. Now I especially have no fucks to give. This pigfucker voted FOR the decimation of government "handouts."

(208 posts)Its referring to the IRA Inflation reduction act funds. Sounds like he used his own money to do some things that were suppose to be reimbursed through thenIRA. Now the funds are not being disbursed because of an E.O. that has paused payments. The moral of the story. NEVER EVER, EVER. Take any funding from the fed. Especially if it doesnt come up front.

(208 posts)As a person that spent part of their former life doing work that was intertwined with grants etc. Ive seen a lot of things go bad. Projects left unfinished, costing municipalities (in some cases) millions of dollars to finish. Because an I wasnt properly dotted. Ive seen the strings that are attached to some, that end up costing more in the long run than it was worth. Hence why I said, unless the money comes up front. Its been my firsthand experience, the fed isnt a reliable long term business partner. Furthermore many grants end up leading to higher taxes and fees.
dpibel
(3,579 posts)Heaven forfend!
That sounds familiar, somehow. But I just can't quite place it.
Littlered
(208 posts)The money isnt created out of thin air. Thats not the point
.. But I have the feeling you dont care to understand my point. I dont believe keeping the fed out of your life or your business is a left or right pov. Its just how I was raised. And its been my experience. Privately, in government and later in business. Your opinion may vary.
In my case it became personal decades ago. Government entity gets grant, government entity takes entire street (and childhood home where my widowed mother lived) via eminent domain. Buying the houses cost exponentially more than they planned because people got lawyers. Future funding dries up, project never comes to fruition. School gone, (had to replaced at tax payer expense as they didnt get lawyers). Community destroyed, lives upended. Land ends up being rezoned commercial and sold to developers for business. Its now fast food type sit down restaurants. Yay grants
. And just because a grant becomes available under one administration doesnt mean it will continue under the next. As the video points out. Which leads me back to my original post
I dont have feelings one way of the other regarding people that choose to get grants
.Best to get your money up front.

(2,338 posts)I have these also, to improve water conservation, irrigation efficiency, soil health, biodiversity, wildlife and pollinator habitat, etc. on my little farm. It's a great program, along with the Conservation Stewardship Program. The work is specified and detailed in a Conservation Plan. It's a contract between NRCS and the landowner. The landowner does the work, including buying supplies. The gov't funding does not happen up front. Furthermore, the funding is not supposed to pay for everything; it's a cost share, approximately one half. When the project is complete, it's inspected for compliance with the contract specifications. If it's certified by NRCS, then it's cleared for payment. This guy's gripe is legit. I need to check on the status of one of my contracts to see if it is frozen as well. It's a sure thing that eloon and his incel minions have no idea what any of this is about.

(7,183 posts)Even if I bought the idea that there is serious waste and abuse, what experience does Eloon have to do take on that task?
Seems like he is just going through the troll list of grievances to make decisions. That may be fine for twitter or whatever he's calling it, but that is not going to work for Government.
It's not like Dems are the only recipients of grants, or are federal employees. Inevitably, there will be more trump voters feeling the repercussions in some way.
Republicans in congress need to keep him in check. But they won't .

(7,087 posts)Whoever Skylar is, they need to do some hard thinking, soul searching and figuring out what is important to them. I do not buy (and I haven't watched the video, so I could be in error) that they voted for Trump because of egg prices. In fact, I don't believe ANYBODY voted for Trump because of egg prices. If Skylar wants to do some inner searching and confront their racism, sexism, misogyny, and general hatred for those less for fortunate, then Skylar can do that. And then Skylar would come to "our side" (ie the side of truth and justice) on their own.

All he has to do is get righteously angry at Trump and his Missouri Republican representatives but he cannot seem to bring himself to do it.
Trump used taxpayer dollars to bail out farmers in his first term when his China tariff hit them. Why does he not have faith Trump will save farmers now?
I have no confidence that this man will help any of the rest of us , no matter how viciously Trump seeks to destroy our lives.

(704 posts)Why would you blow $80,000 making improvements based upon some unfullfilled contract which could be rescinded or not performed by the other party? It makes no economic sense nor any business sense to do that. Old Skylar doesn't look like he is hurting too badly given those expensive all-terrain vehicles he is using to drive around his farm. It would be real interesting to look at that alleged $240,000 "contract" he claims to have had with the "government." It would be real interesting to have a forensic accountant examine his business books.

When I was younger, that cliche applied as I wanted to prove that I was a grownup and adult. When it applies to tRump voters and MAGAts, it carries more meaning. This farmer made his decision. He cannot take it back. THIS is WHO he voted for and WHAT he voted for. He "made his bed." Now he has to lie in it.

(51,201 posts)Yes because I feel some compassion for his prospective loss. He followed all the rules and still will lose his farm.
No because he refused to consider all the facts and factors of his choice of candidate, Donald J. Trump. I could let this go if it were 2017 as so many people didn't know who he was and his lack of caring for anyone but himself. But he could have made a different choice, but he chose to believe whatever Trump said was truth and Trump would protect him.

He is upset about his Natural Resources Conservation Service contract. He was installing water lines as part of the grant. Now I know alot of conservatives who are involved with conservation work because of grants, so I know that doesn't mean he's a not a Trump voter. I just can't find anything to indicate that he's a Trump voter or who he voted for etc...
In an interview with DTN, Holden expressed frustration because he was initially cautious about signing up for a government program. Once he got started, however, Holden said he was excited about the prospects and what the EQIP improvements could do on his land. He touted NRCS programs on his TikTok account @cattlemenfamilyfarms.
"I made business decisions based on this contract," Holden said.
Holden said NRCS staff told him to contact his congressional delegation in Missouri to see if they could get the funds release.
He added, "Going into this, if I had known they could have frozen the payments I never would have done it. I was promoting the NRCS programs a lot on my TikTok and I talked to a lot of people who signed up for those programs. And now looking back I feel guilty because they're all in the same boat I am in. They started projects and they aren't getting paid out on them."

Sorry, but I'm just skeptical of videos of FAFO etc.
We do have a big "Latinos for Trump" guy in my neighborhood. He was involved in the 2020 Trump trains. He did take down his big Trump flag. He now has a Mexican flag. He has a flag collection in his back yard with USA, 13 colonies, Mexico and Crown of Castille (Old colonial Spanish flag)
(Although he's probably 1/2 Native American, a good chunk of Latinos are upset over Christopher Columbus Day being changed to Indigenous Peoples Day. And many still honor Columbus. It's complicated, but many are related to those conquistadors, like my husband, who is 1/2 indigenous)
He also took down his US Marines flag, so I'm not reading too much into it. I'm sure he's still a Trumper, but maybe he felt he could have been offending Latinos with his Trump flag? Who knows? Or maybe he just switched out flags the way he switches out his flower beds?
The fact that he put up colonial flags indicates that he's still a conservative, even though he put up a Mexican flag.

(7,183 posts)Sorry cant link to it now but you can look through his other videos to find it.
He does a bothsiderism speech in that video. According to him, it should not matter that he voted for trump because both sides are bad. Never mind that he was going to benefit from a Biden plan, but he voted for trump who took it away, yet he says both sides are bad.
I try my best to best to vet info before I post. Im big on not amplifying misinformation.
My new favorite past time is enjoying these folks reap what they sowed.
They exist. To what extent, I dont know, but they are out there.
Some even have the nerve to be saying now its time come together Another trump voter has a response video chastising the people criticizing this guy for voting for Rump, claiming its not red vs blue, its rich vs poor and we should all come together because all these farmers are hurting and all politicians lie during their campaigns and never do anything for working people .
To that I say, they should have done their research .
