Opinions on IRS Free File "Trusted Partners"

After running through the initial questions on the IRS Free File site, I am offered four options: 1) TaxSlayer, 2) OLT Online Taxes, 3) 1040.com and 4) FreeTaxUSA. I've never used any of these and with my tax situation having changed in 2024, I am uncertain which might the best option to go with (read: "less likely to be owned or operated by fascists).

Any experience or thoughts on which of these might be a good, safe option? Thanks.

I used Free Tax USA a few years ago. Now I let my CPA deal with the complexities 'free' filing companies can't handle. sinkingfeeling Feb 6 #5

Very easy. They file both my federal and state taxes electronically and the refunds show up in my bank account pretty quickly. I plan to use it again this year. One thing though, while the Federal filing is free, you must qualify for free state filing by income. I don’t qualify for state free filing but the charge has been nominal, I think it was about $15.

A little digging seems to suggest TaxSlayer and FreeTaxUSA both get good reviews, 1040 not so much and OLT might be owned by someone with mostly R donations in 2018... old info but what I could find easily. I'll go with one of the former once I dig a little deeper, thanks for sharing your experience.
