They don't have the legal authority to do what they are doing. They do have the power. They are an illegal autocratic regime. They must be forcefully opposed, and soon. Musk is just going to shut down the federal payment system to kill the federal government and starve out the population. It is illegal and unconstitutional but they are going to do it.
Once the Federal Government is paralyzed, I expect that they might use the FBI to charge their political enemies with trumped up crimes, and also use the military against the American People. Democratic politicians and Media figures that report against Trump are in danger, as is the general population.
If we do not stand up soon, we will lose our Democracy and we will be living in a Fascist Police State. We have a legal and moral right to defend ourselves, our country, and our democracy. With a justified use of force, if necessary. How do we resist? Here are a few possibilities-
Legal And Military Resistance--
One hope to stop them is a lawful rebellion within in the Federal Law Enforcement Agencies. Federal Law Enforcement Agents take an Oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is clear that Musk and his criminal DOGE Agents are domestic enemies of the Constitution. Federal agents that are loyal to the Constitution should take action now and arrest Musk and his Agents. We need patriots like Christopher Wray and other former FBI Directors to come out in the Media and implore Federal Law Enforcement to take action now and arrest Elon Musk and his criminal DOGE Agents.
Another hope to stop them is a lawful rebellion in the military. Anti-Trump soldiers and officers that are loyal to the Constitution and their Oaths should be prepared to not follow illegal orders, including using force against American citizens. It is illegal to follow illegal orders, and it is legal to oppose unlawful orders. There will be a certain number of pro-Trump soldiers and officers loyal to the Dictator Trump. We need soldiers and officers that are loyal to the Constitution to oppose them. We need patriot soldiers like General Milley, Lloyd Austin, Malcolm Nance, and Adam Kinzinger to take some action to mobilize and organize the Anti-Trump forces before it is too late. We could probably use the former Presidents to come out and verbally sanction this sort of Resistance in the Media. If we do not take extreme action soon, we will lose our Democracy and we will be living in a Police State.
Popular Resistance-
Another possible path of Resistance is a popular uprising. If Musk kills all Social Security payments, that alone affects one in five Americans, over 68 million people. That does not include the family and friends of those people. This could spark a massive popular uprising. Tens of millions of people could be involved, and this could overwhelm the Trump Musk Regime. Something similar happened in South Korea when their President attempted to impose martial law. The people rose up, the President was lawfully removed from office, and he was arrested. The same thing could happen here in America. Trump Musk is an illegal and unconstitutional Regime and we have the right to remove them from power.
Other Forms of Resistance-
This list is not exhaustive and there are other ways to Resist that have not been explicated here. Media Resistance, Resistance in the Courts, Resistance in Blue States, Resistance with Support from Foreign Allies (Canada, Mexico, Europe) are all other ways to Resist and can be described in greater detail elsewhere and later.
Finally- A legal basis for lawful Resistance and Rebellion--
The powers of the President and the Executive Branch derive from the Constitution. If the President and his Agents are acting in an illegal and unconstitutional manner, then their authority is null and void. No illegal or unconstitutional action can therefore be "official", and the Supreme Court doctrine that asserts a President can commit illegal actions while in office is defunct and should be once again challenged in the courts and in the streets, if necessary.
A relevant excerpt from the Declaration of Independence, the founding document of our Nation--
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."
Our lives, our liberties, and our pursuit of happiness are being threatened by this rogue fascist regime. We have the right to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government. If they are going to subvert the law, violate the Constitution, and destroy our government, we have the right to resist and to establish a new government. We are the people and we do not consent to this false and despotic regime.

(1,492 posts)I think one way to get some Republican support in the Congress is to push for a vote on an Act to Defend Social Security. If Musk tries to kill Social Security payments in March, there will be a huge uproar from Dems, Republicans and Independents alike. This might get some Repubs on our side against Trump Musk- a longshot though. Link to Defending Social Security post-
