E.g. "How Democrats Lost Their Base and Their Message.
Donald Trumps populist pitch bumped Democrats off their traditional place in American politics."
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/25/upshot/democrats-trump-working-class.html
It's such flagrant bullshit! And it's such an old recycled storyline line as well.
As a candidate, he ran the worst campaign I've ever seen. He had no coherent message at all. He just put out a constant barrage of random nonsense and lies and insults. Is that supposed to be a populist message?
I honestly have no idea how anyone listening to him at his rallies or in his interviews was supposed to take away coherent plans he had.
Maybe his ads had a populist message, but seriously? The ads count for his whole campaign?
The ridiculous McDonald's and Garbage truck stunts? That swung the election?
This populist campaign story line just reeks of more sane washing. I think like the election was won by swing voters for the most primal of reasons-- people feeling economic pain who wanted change and didn't want to vote for a black woman and were exposed to a lot of propaganda.

(53,552 posts)All these articles want us to come to Jesus about the economy and the populist message and blah, blah, blah. It's "Trumpers in Midwest Diners" part deux. It was never true and it's not true now.
The only thing we need to come to Jesus about is that there is enough racism and sexism ON OUR SIDE to sink the campaign of a woman and/or a person of color.
We need to face this. The numbers prove it. It sucks, but it's there.

The heartbreak is that it was Biden voters who voted for trump that could have made the difference.

(721 posts)didn't even know Kamala was black, or anything. Didn't vote for her because Democrats value illegal immigrants over Americans, Democrats don't care at all about crime, everything's more expensive but they lecture us the economy is great. (Their words)
We are a divided nation.

(65,031 posts)The lies overwhelm all the sources of information - social media, Trump's ads, Trump's rallies, Fox News, AM radio - it's all lies.
And the rest of the media didn't confront the lies. They picked at the edges with lame both-sides "fact checks" and sane-washed Trump.

(26,314 posts)It is only slightly less (and I do mean slightly) believable than claiming "we had no idea Kamala was a woman" but both things set off my "Don't even believe it" sensors and so it reasonably follows that everything else they had to say was some bullshit too.
Any and all "economic anxiety" will completely evaporate by the third week in January at which time POOF...THE GREATEST ECONOMY IN THE HISTORY OF TIME AND SPACE!

(97,010 posts)in Iraq based on that LIE. They helped elect trump in 2016 by falsely stating that the "email investigation" was reopened. That was a LIE, and they held VP Harris to a higher standard than the sociopath in 2024, where they had NO STANDARD.
Let's see how they handle the sociopath in the next for years. I won't be surprised if they fold.

(22,721 posts)is if you look beyond the speeches, at the actions, he represents, more than any politician in history, EVERYTHING that his voters claim to hate about politics. The corruption, the "say anything to get elected", the stealing of taxpayer money, the lack of concern for anything but billionaire friends, the contempt for the common man. Again, he SAYS he'll fight for them, but beyond the words are the actual actions, and none of them are targeted at "joe six pack".

(19,981 posts)The average white person across the country, even ones with higher educations, see the so-called American Dream slipping away from them and they dont understand why. Trump came along and told them it was illegal immigrants enabled by Liberals that developed DEI and Woke policies that are ripping the American Dream out of their hands, and the news media, spearheaded by the likes of FOX and the New York Times hammered these talking points into the heads of a vast number of the electorate.
Now the truth is the Dream isnt slipping away because of any competitive pressure from immigrants or even amongst our native citizens. Its the oligarchs like Musk and Murdoch and Bezos who control not only the flow of information but also help shape the policies that drive the narratives.

(663 posts)acknowledged these rich white elites like Musk don't care about them and are the reason why they are suffering from great economic inequality. I think from a psychological standpoint it's very hard for them to accept a member of their own race doesn't care about them and is inflicting pain and suffering on them. This is why they blame all their economic problems on immigrants and non-whites just to deflect and not hold the actual culprits accountable because they can't handle the trauma and mental pain and anguish that would cause them.
