My hubby (disabled vet) works part time at Safeway. He was told .. No FREE Turkey this Thanksgiving

Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway and other big grocery chains ...... Raising food prices

Screwing over employees. I hate them. We are just barely making it. Paycheck to paycheck.

I am going to see if we can get a food box.

the day after Thanksgiving, I'm going to get my Xmas turkey... because probably they'll be dropping the price immediately.

I am SO glad I work for an outfit that takes the opposite approach to its employees. Granted, we are at about “only” 900 people worldwide by now, and Safeway probably has tens of thousands of employees, but even so, since everyone needs to buy food, how bad can a major food chain’s business be that they feel OK about discontinuing a tradition like that?

Here in Germany, an organically raised turkey big enough to feed 20 people costs us anout $200, but it’s once a year, so we just say “what the hell” and pay up.

This action from the corporate America is totally unacceptable. There's been record profits over the past 2 years, right? Where do you think all that money went during the fake inflationary period?

Besides any of that, what's it gonna cost them for a couple dozen turkeys? 2 dozen? More? Does it even matter? When I had a job 10 years ago, the company I was employed by, had an employee total of 500K. Imagine that bill for turkeys. We all got one. Today, it's all about Corporate America and profits in Trumps world. And soon, Trump will dole out huge tax breaks to the top 1%. The domino effect then starts. It's going to be messy, believe me.

So give me a friggin break. Give the employees a turkey!! They deserve it and it's a nice gesture. The day of helping thy neighbor is over. No empathy trump likes it that way. God help us all

Our hospital used to do a Turkey on Turkey day and a ham for Xmas (eventually became a "holiday" ham which makes more sense but I digress) and they quit doing it altogether this year too.

Their reason was too many people complained about the size or quality last time. Seriously. I won't call them liars, but I personally heard nothing but super happy people.

My church gives away large amounts of FREE food to many recipients, with a room that is stocked like a grocery store, twice a week. And they are not the only United Methodist Church in my town that does it. Plus, this week, they are going to give a FREE TURKEY to each family. If your local United Methodist Church does not do this, they should be able to tell you about a church that does do it.

I have purchased very inexpensive turkeys on sale at Stop & Shop. This year I purchased one at Costco, which was also on sale but not as much. Also, if you qualify, a lot of people are giving a free Thanksgiving meals away at charities. In addition, if you buy them after Thanksgiving, they are often deeply discounted.

At the mill where I used to work, they always served these "turkey roll" things, bits of this and that meat pressed into like a meatloaf form. It was nasty. The fixings were always cold and dry, the desserts looked like they were last year's leftovers. So, people just wouldn't go eat. Most of it went into the trash.

One year, the company sent out a memo, asked if we'd rather have the dinner, or $5. Everyone said they'd take the money. Back then, five bucks bought more. LOL

The year after that, we were asked if we'd rather have the old meal, or BBQ. Everybody said BBQ. The company was shocked, but we got a nice meal of Carolina BBQ, with the fixings, and either peach cobbler (from canned peaches) or banana pudding. It was great, there was plenty of food, and people were just happy. Then in the summer, for Textile Week, we started getting a steak and baked potato, served outdoors weather permitting, cooked and served by management!

Sometimes, putting your foot down ends up with good things.
