putting Mango Mussolini away in prison for the rest of his miserable life.

(2,343 posts)Many might show up on Election Day for Harris, but while they're in the voting booth (or filling out their absentee ballot), they will likely go straight Dem on the rest of the candidates. I don't know that for sure, though, and certainly the Republicans voting for Harris will not go straight Dem. So we will have to see what happens.

(574 posts)... Tomás de Torquemada. Mr. Torquemada would know how to ask the Republican Nazis the right questions in the right rooms in the right subterranean places; and, as we all know, "waterboarding" is not torture. A Grand Inquisitor is what these times require for members of that manifestly corrupt Fascist criminal enterprise which styles itself as a political party.

(19,023 posts)So another pick for AG would be more realistic.
Also, if Dems lose control of the senate, Harris would need to pick someone already confirmed by the senate, or would have to settle for anacting AG until after the 2026 midterms.
There are many excellent candidates who have never been in the news or who have never appeared on MSNBC.

(2,490 posts)If and when Kamala wins with a wide, indisputable margin (fingers and toes crossed), here is an excellent candidate to replace USAG Merrick Garland:
Ms. Letitia James, NYS AG
And with the same caveat, here is an excellent candidate to replace D/FBI Christopher Wray:
Former police chief and Congresswoman Val Demings
Both Ms. James and Congresswoman Demings meet all the US Constitutional requirements for these respective positions.
PS: And when you look at all the Jan 6, anti-Kremlin and anti-Beijing counterintelligence prosecutions under Merrick Garland's watch at DOJ, he wasn't doing too bad. And his choice of SC Jack Smith, who prosecuted war criminals at the ICC, was outstanding.
Per the DOJ:
"In the 45 months since 6 Jan 2021, more than 1,532 suspects have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to attacking the US Capitol, including more than 571 seditionists charged with feloniously assaulting or impeding law enforcement. The FBI investigation remains ongoing."

(2,343 posts)It just seems like his actions were a little too late. From a 2023 The Nation article:
As a blockbuster report by The Washington Posts Carol D. Leonnig and Aaron C. Davis revealed this June, for a full year after the insurrection, Garlands team looking into January 6 consisted of just four prosecutors working with agents with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the National Archives and Records Administration. Garland also shunned any wider probe into Trumps coterie of political shills and hack-legal advisers building the case for him to gin up a bogus roster of alternate electors from swing states to throw Congresss January 6 certification of results into chaos. Those sycophants and grifters are now unnamed co-conspirators in Smiths indictment, and will be subject to future legal proceedings. In the end, Garland didnt mount an investigation into the electors scheme until 15 months after the failed coup attempt.

(35,759 posts)Calling her president Harris, at this point, reminds me too much of our 2016 cockiness which put Trump in office. I personally know people who voted for this party candidates (or didn't vote to send "President" Clinton a message.
