(2,123 posts)I even picked up a pizza from Sammy's Woodfired Pizza to enjoy and it was wonderful as usual. So all in all, another fun evening with Bill Maher!

(226,549 posts)Fran Lebowitz is always irreverent and entertaining and the panel was unusually intellectual, I agree, but that was better than Bill having to argue with them to vote against TFG. But the best, I thought, was his final point in New Rules. This country is far from perfect, but it's pretty damn good compared to most of the rest of the world - and if we want improvements, we'd better GOTV!
Glad that you had great pizza to go with the show!
question everything
(49,389 posts)Here they were in a serious discussion and his joke just did no fit, I thought.
And I was screaming at him to let his obsession with masks go.
He wants mask wearers to write the reason? mine would be Maher, f**k off
HisNew Rules that the Founding Fathers were the same age as the currents Zers was good. Also all the ones that trash this country compared with the millions willing to die to come over is important to mention.

If he has problem with that, he can get bent.

(12,208 posts)except maybe the sex part. Bill didn't take over or interrupt a lot and let the guest who were very informative speak.
I thought what they said about AI and algorithms was right on.
I have thought for over a decade that we need regulation on social media, its been proven they can implant thoughts in people and brain wash.

(226,549 posts)Not sure if Bill couldn't keep up with the panel guests or he just let them have their say, but either way it worked out, LOL. And I also agree with you regarding social media. As Bill said in his New Rules segment, people can be fooled into advocating against their own best interests if there's no fact checking.

(12,208 posts)The Social Dilemma it is very depressing what they are letting these sites do. I still use FB but I am very conscious of what they are up to.
I find it funny the ads they give me, I never buy anything but laugh at Hippie clothing, yoga things, they have me figured out pretty good. I take control and pause people for a month I don't want to see and go into my friends I miss and like a few things and will see them after that. So I have them figured out too, lol.

(226,549 posts)And then I read about the abuses right here on DU - first there was Cambridge Analytica and then the whistleblower who worked there so I certainly never regretted not joining.
And in the past few years - since the 2016 election - the falsehoods have gotten more serious and scary. Back before the 2016 election I finally quit watching the news, I couldn't stand hearing one more boast or insult from the offensive blowhard, figured I'd turn it on again after the election was over - and we know how that went.
And in the years since it's become worse than anything we ever imagined, those who not only believe the lies, but are willing to participate in violence. And no matter how ludicrous the lies, the deluded still believe them. It's like the frog in the gradually boiling water analogy - they've gotten so they will believe anything. And I'm sure hoping that the result of November's election will be the start of bringing sanity back to this country - but even so, it's going to take a good long while.

(3,216 posts)that Stephanie Rhule only asked Harris softball questions. Of course, the usual Maher sycophants are ignoring his attacks on Harris and are just heaping praise on their cult leader.
