NBC News: Key Nebraska Republican opposes changing how the state awards electoral votes, blocking Trump push

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/key-nebraska-republican-opposes-changing-state-awards-electoral-votes-rcna172276

A pivotal state senator said he opposed changing Nebraska's electoral votes to winner-take-all before the election. The bill's Republican sponsor said he plans to try again next year.
"After deep consideration, it is clear to me that right now, 43 days from Election Day, is not the moment to make this change," state Sen. Mike McDonnell wrote in a letter obtained by NBC News.

Nebraska GOP state Sen. Loren Lippincott, who sponsored the bill to move the state to a winner-take-all system, indicated Monday that McDonnell's position means a special session to move the legislation is not expected this fall.

Article is poorly written - doesn't mention Mike Mcdonnell's name, and even only by his last name at that.
It would be one more legal fight if these idiots did succeed before this election. Not fan of this Mike Mccdonnell (Dem turned GOP) but glad he didn't go along w the RWers. Seems they'll keep trying even after the election.

I applaud Senator McDonnell for listening to the people of Nebraska. Unlike our putrid Governor Pillen! Gaytano70 Sep 2024 #1
Great news. If they were gonna do that and I thought they might, why make it stink as much as possible trying right brewens Sep 2024 #2
I think our Nebraskan DUers were way ahead of this. ColinC Sep 2024 #3
Yup, whether NE does it or not won't really be relevant for FUTURE elections. Jmb 4 Harris-Walz Sep 2024 #4

They let us know days ago this simply was not a thing that could happen yet.

Presumably, Maine will also change to winner-take-all too.
Republicans were so anxious to get it through so fast this year because Maine wouldn’t be able to enact the change for this election year. They have a 90-day wait period for any new legislation to be effective and that has past for the November election and the December 7 deadline to submit the electors
