JD Vance acknowledges the cat and dog stories are urban legends and then rationalizes it (via CNN): If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that's what I'm going to do."

The confrontation came during a Sunday interview on Face the Nation.
"On September 9th, you amplified what you said yourself were rumors about Haitian migrants eating pets," Brennan explained......
"I'm asking about your words, sir, which you are responsible for," Brennan pressed.
Vance said people in Springfield were "grateful for the fact that we are now talking about these problems and trying to solve them."
"Again, the Springfield mayor is a Republican," Brennan noted. "That's who I was quoting to you."
