USA Today: New election poll shows low-income voters flocking to Kamala Harris over Donald Trump

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/09/04/election-poll-low-income-voters-harris-trump/75018088007/

"Low income voters ? those making less than $20,000 a year ? now support Harris over former President Donald Trump, 58%-35%, the biggest jump among all groups, according to the poll. It is a reversal from June, when Trump, at 39%, was three points ahead of Biden, at 36% with voters of this economic group....
Kamala Harris surges with younger voters. The poll's overall findings reflect an eight-point turnaround in the race from late June, when Trump led Biden. Throughout the year, Biden trailed Trump by anywhere from half a percentage point to almost four points.

Harris’ slight lead is fueled by demographic groups including Black and Hispanic voters. Aside from low-income voters, Harris is also popular among moderate-income voters, those who make less than $50,000. With this group, Harris leads Trump by three points, 47%-44%, according the poll.
People who make less than $20,000 a year tend to be very young voters ? those who are just starting out in the workplace or finishing their education ? or older voters who are on a fixed income, said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center.
Harris' favorability rating with this group leaped 16 points, from 37% in June to 53%, in August."

to intelligence or at least I think I’m above average

But I get you. I am appalled at the way they have hooked so many in voting against their best interests.

I blame the lack of funding public school systems and demonizing of educators.

The MAGA/GOP have ALWAYS been quite adept at getting an inordinate number of low and even middle income people to vote AGAINST their own best interests.

They do so by DUPING their constituency about the causes of their economic, even social condition. So that instead of knowing that the MAGA/GOP has

structured taxes to benefit the wealthy instead of middle and low income Americans,
opposed extentions to unemployment benefits,
opposed student loan forgiveness,
opposed increases to the federal minimum wage to at least a livable wage,
opposed caps on costs of prescription medicine,
opposed aid and programs to benefit veterans and families of veterans, opposed caps on interest and mortgage rates,

while the MAGA/GOP has,

fought to dismantle the Consumer Protection Bureau,
supporting junk bank fees,
corporate price gouging,
higher interest rates,
cuts to assistance programs for low income families,
cuts to social security and medicare,
elimination of free school lunch programs

instead of knowing that the so-called anti-big government party has passed laws that have literally stripped away their rights to privacy and autonomy - in what they do in their own homes and bedrooms and in their own personal choices

instead of knowing that MAGA/GOP has done much toward making their lives MORE difficult and environmentally UNSAFE as well,

their constituency is BUFFOONED in believing the causes of all their woes are "those" people - minorities, immigrants, and OTHER poor people.

The MAGA/GOP foments, preaches, DEPENDS upon the hate, the racism, the bigotry, and the DIVIDE because it gets their duped constituency LOOKING THE OTHER WAY.

Of very low income voters?

You know, the ones who probably don’t have home internet and adequate phone service to respond to a poll. This is not a put down just the reality that if you’re making less than $20k/year those things are more difficult to afford (which is why public libraries that provide public computers for internet access are so important).

William Barber II, who wrote White Poverty and has been working on a national movement to engage poor people in the political process.

That is really, really good. Bless him!
