Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend -- and later himself -- after he spent the previous night in an entertainment district and slept at the apartment of another woman, witnesses told police.
The events could explain why Belcher got into an argument with Kasandra Perkins, the mother of their 3-month-old child, that preceded the murder-suicide.
Five hours before he shot Perkins, Belcher was questioned by police when he was reported sleeping in a car outside the other woman's apartment, police said Tuesday.
Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call about 2:50 a.m at an apartment complex near downtown Kansas City, Missouri, where they found Belcher dozing in the car, Sergeant Darin Snapp said.
Officers woke him up and asked what he was doing, Snapp said.
Belcher said he was waiting for his girlfriend to come home and didn't have the door code number so he could not go inside, Snapp said. Belcher then called someone on his cell phone and about that time a woman came to the door of the apartment and waved him in, Snapp said.
Belcher had been partying in an area of bars known as the Power & Light District, police said, and later went to the other woman's apartment.

Pretty easy to figure out:
- Perkin's cousin is married to another Chiefs' player, and gets introduced to Belcher,
- who wouldn't want to marry a millionaire?
- Perkin's abandons plans to become a teacher, moves to KC, moves in with Belcher,
- Perkin's becomes his baby momma, which now guarantees at least child support,
- Belcher has started hanging around with football groupies, probably during pregnancy,
- couple fights and Perkin's get Belcher's momma to come and try to keep him in line,
- Belcher feels trapped, finally explodes.
Couple of immature people with really bad judgement (after all he's a 25 year old driving a Bentley and she's a mother out of wedlock).
He might be on steroids, but he might also just naturally produce a lot of testosterone (he's an NFL linebacker and his neck widens out below his ears).
He's in a rage anyway, since he shot her 9 times (probably in the lower torso, since she took a while to die, while he killed himself with one shot to the head).

(135,425 posts)And why do you assume she comes from a family without resources?
And why do you assume she's a golddigger, and got involved for the child support?
Usually, if that's the deal, the athelete and "baby momma" (your term, not one I'd use) don't live together ... with MOM. HIS MOM. You really think this guy would hook up with some golddigger and bring her home to MOM?
Why are you assuming that a "mother out of wedlock" is "immature" and possesses "bad judgment?"
I've been to three weddings in the past three years. The children of the happy couple were present at two of them--this is, apparently "the new normal."
He was in a relationship with one woman, and sneaking around with another. He got caught, and couldn't deal.
I'd say THAT was the crux of the problem, if I were to speculate at all.
I think your assumptions about the dead mother of this crazy ass guy's child are WAY out of line. I also think you're forgetting to blame the murderer for murdering.

Jovan Belcher's mother frantic on 911 call as woman died
The mother of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher pleaded with 911 dispatchers and her son's dying girlfriend after he shot Kasandra Perkins on Saturday morning.
Cheryl Shepherd called for emergency assistance as Perkins, 22, was bleeding on the bathroom floor of the couple's Crysler Avenue home. In 911 audio obtained by USA TODAY Sports, Shepherd is heard asking dispatchers to send an ambulance to the home.
"She's still breathing but barely," Shepherd says on the tape. "Please hurry."

What a lame comment.

(10,611 posts)Yeah, because that's all that matters. Who cares about assessing a person's character or relying on your instincts as to whether they're the right person for you?
There may be people who don't think beyond that, and yes, that puts them at risk of landing a real jackass or worse, but on what basis do you assume the victim had nothing but dollar signs in her eyes?

This OP is just WRONG on a number of levels.
