Life

I was 100% for Joe Biden. I was confident that he would beat the felon in a close contest. I was sad to see the way he ended what I consider a truly great career.

I am now 100% for VP Harris. Since having my computer shit the bed in a storm eleven days ago, and being off-line until this morning, I've seen and heard the response to her both in person and on the telephone. Let me give but two examples:

Last night, I went to see my sister's granddaughter's summer league basketball games. In between games, as we all moved to a different court, a large, apparently human was strolling the opposite way. He was rude in the sense of not making room for others. And you guessed it -- we donned a maga hat. I noted a small black lady not get out of his way, in kind of a game of chicken. He moved.

People who noticed were laughing, myself included. It was then I noticed she was wearing a "Harris: 2024" t-shirt.

I had a phone call late at night from a lady who in past years I knew as a Democratic Party activist. I knew her from going door-to-door for then Senator Obama, and again for his re-election. I had contacted her a few months ago, saying it was time to get started, but she said she'd have to get back to me. I had thought that she probably would not.

Late a night, the phone rang. It was her. She asked me if I thought a woman could be elected president? Yes. Even a non-white woman? Definitely. She started laughing, and said that was what she wanted to hear. She said she has been in contact with female friends across the state, and they are all very excited. She is around my daughte's age, in my opinion one of the key groups to winning not a close contest, but to expel the maga movement from the bowels of DC.

I am devastated to lose Joe. In fact Sunday night I woke up several times and every time I did my heart would sink into my stomach when I remembered he had opted out.

I spent a day being thoroughly depressed and filled with dread. Then I started seeing Kamala’s fund raising numbers and saw the slow reaction online— from the Black community. It was joy, and hope, and a fighting spirit I think people forgot they even had. And that made me joyful too.

I can’t stand the thought of losing Joe but I know he would never leave us unless it was the best thing for the country.

After listening to his press conference and recognizing his mastery of foreign policy I am concerned going forward what will happen in the rest of the world without him there to prop it up.

I haven’t ever loved a president as I do him. He just makes me trust him, and I have never trusted a president before. Supported yes. Not trusted.

It will be a day of mourning as well as a celebration when Kamala is sworn in.

Thanks for the OP and welcome back to DU. You were missed.

I had begun to wonder if everyone had been happy that I was gone, or if some where hoping for one of my long, tedious, and self-righteous OPs?

Despite my own opinion pf Joe Biden -- which remains very high -- I do recognize that the move to Harris has energized the party. More, it fucks with the maga campaign on a delightful way.

When I look back on events, as old men tend to do, I find myself wishing he had run in 2016. He would have spanked the felon, and we would not have had the shit that resulted in the felon's victory. The USSC would still be a respected institution. And Joe would be finishing his seconf term.

Horrible loss. I'm sure Joe just didn't want to deal with a political shit storm when the family's grief was so fresh. To compete for 2016 he would have neeed to ramp up right after his son died. I can't see him (or anyone) doing that.

Plus, I think his respect for Hillary would absolutely negate any ambition he had then, to beat trump. In those days it really looked like Hillary could easily win.

I will be in mourning for Joe because I really love him.

I love Kamala too, in a different way. I am proud of her and the support she has garnered so quickly.

We all have the same goal. Joe would never have given up his candidacy if he didn't know Kamala would win. I believe that.

I missed you terribly. So glad you're back. Tell number one son sorry for being such a worry wart.

Beau encouraged him to run. And I know that it has been reported in recent weeks that he thought he was pressured not to run. The 2008 primary had created a division in the party, and several people close to him told Joe that it was Hillary's turn. The party has never been as good to Joe as he was to the party.

Only time in my life I have been angry with Democrats. I am a Democrat practically from birth.

And I was hoping that Joe would reconsider, but once he endorsed Kamala I knew it was all but over for his 2nd term.

I think his family helped to persuade him to withdraw because of the media’s reluctance to talk about anything else but Biden’s health and age. Then there were the members in his own party who publicly supported him withdrawing from the race.

This has been extremely eye opening event to say the least.

Monday I felt like everything is going to be alright and after securing the delegates I definitely feel better.

I watched her at her Delaware hqs, and the Milwaukee rally and I believe we will win.

Because when we fight we win, and we’re not going back!

Glad to see you back, I had been wondering where you were hiding.

spend a lot of much-needed time in the garden.

I think that we will crush the felon in November. One of the things I took note of even before Joe stepped aside was one of my favorite DUers saying she didn't think JD Vance would remain on the republican ticket. I try to be fair ...... these rumors, for example, about his having sex with underaged couch cushions isn't fair. His couch was over twenty years old.

There are a lot of Taylor Swift fans who will vote come November. Cat People, too.
