https://www.rawstory.com/harris-running-mate/Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear are already being vetted to become Vice President Kamala Harris running mate, according to two people close to the vice-president quoted in a report Sunday night in the Financial Times.
Harris spoke Sunday with at least three Democratic governors who are in consideration to be her VP pick. In addition to Shapiro and Beshear, Bidens VP also spoke with North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. The calls were reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Like Harris, Shapiro and Cooper both served as their respective states attorney generals. Shapiro and Cooper both endorsed Harris on Sunday.

(1,146 posts)State politics is different from federal, and I believe it is necessary for somebody to have national experience rather than statewide experience.
We need all the statehouses we can get.
Yes, there was FDR, Clinton, and Carter, but you have to have a ton of good advisers to be able to handle national issues. Otherwise, you need somebody like Joe Biden.

(878 posts)Choosing a governor from a battleground state such as Shapiro has the potential to help us win that state and similar swing states.

In It to Win It
(9,712 posts)1) We want to keep all of our incumbent House Reps and Senators so they're out.
2) I mentioned this in another post. IMO, we should have someone that has a good relationship with many members of Congress. That was the advantage of Joe Biden and we saw just how beneficial it was with all of the once-in-a-generation bipartisan legislation that he was able to get signed. I think Kamala Harris needs someone that provides a solid link between the WH and Congress that will be able to leverage relationships to negotiate bills. That link was Joe Biden, having been in Congress for decades, and Joe Biden was that link for himself and for Barack Obama.
3) Her VP probably should be someone from PA, WI, or MI because they would likely add value to the ticket by keeping those states in the fold.
However, there's really no one that checks all those boxes. So which one(s) should be prioritized?

(9,821 posts)I don't see what he really delivers that can't be achieved other ways.
Roy Cooper can, more likely than not, actually deliver North Carolina for the first time since 2008.
Also help stabilize Virginia and other southern states like Georgia.
Added bonus, Cooper is term limited as a successful 2 term governor of a purple state. We are not losing anything there. Shapiro still has the ability to run in Pennsylvania and is doing a great job there.

(21,848 posts)Shapiro seems like Presidential material. Bashear has some strengths too. And don't sleep on Mark Kelly, his military service would be a huge plus.

without Josh we go down an ugly road regardless of the strength of the two big city's politics --

(711 posts)opinion writers on the WaPo, I started reading the Philadelphia Inquirer. Lots of good stories there on Josh Shapiro. It sounds like he has a very good chance of being chosen as VP at this point.

(262 posts)Beshear was also Attorney General. I think hes a really strong choice. Been re-elected in a red state. Super progressive. And great with Union Leaders.

(22,409 posts)Trust him, that's an automatic endorsement for low-information voters. I also think PA's purple status helps those looking for centrists.

(25,305 posts)he has plenty of experience and probably the best speaker of all the candidates.
I'm from Pa. and without winning the presidency it doesn't make much difference once we become a Dictatorship who the governor is.

(8,539 posts)So, I'd go with Shapiro, who I also really like, and would probably guarantee PA and really help out with the other Blue Wall states.
I'm not sure Beshear -- or Cooper, who is also mentioned -- can actually guarantee any particular states, including their home states, if they were on the ticket.
SKKY
(12,274 posts)...and given he's not really a national name, probably not going to excite many moderates in other true battleground states. I'd rather Beshear make a run at McConnell's seat.
