Shapiro already being vetted as Harris' running mate: report

https://www.rawstory.com/harris-running-mate/

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear are already being vetted to become Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, according to “two people close to the vice-president” quoted in a report Sunday night in the Financial Times.

Harris spoke Sunday with at least three Democratic governors who are in consideration to be her VP pick. In addition to Shapiro and Beshear, Biden’s VP also spoke with North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. The calls were reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Like Harris, Shapiro and Cooper both served as their respective state’s attorney generals. Shapiro and Cooper both endorsed Harris on Sunday.

State politics is different from federal, and I believe it is necessary for somebody to have national experience rather than statewide experience.

We need all the statehouses we can get.

Yes, there was FDR, Clinton, and Carter, but you have to have a ton of good advisers to be able to handle national issues. Otherwise, you need somebody like Joe Biden.

Choosing a governor from a battleground state — such as Shapiro — has the potential to help us win that state and similar swing states.

1) We want to keep all of our incumbent House Reps and Senators so they're out.

2) I mentioned this in another post. IMO, we should have someone that has a good relationship with many members of Congress. That was the advantage of Joe Biden and we saw just how beneficial it was with all of the once-in-a-generation bipartisan legislation that he was able to get signed. I think Kamala Harris needs someone that provides a solid link between the WH and Congress that will be able to leverage relationships to negotiate bills. That link was Joe Biden, having been in Congress for decades, and Joe Biden was that link for himself and for Barack Obama.

3) Her VP probably should be someone from PA, WI, or MI because they would likely add value to the ticket by keeping those states in the fold.

However, there's really no one that checks all those boxes. So which one(s) should be prioritized?

I don't see what he really delivers that can't be achieved other ways.
Roy Cooper can, more likely than not, actually deliver North Carolina for the first time since 2008.
Also help stabilize Virginia and other southern states like Georgia.

Added bonus, Cooper is term limited as a successful 2 term governor of a purple state. We are not losing anything there. Shapiro still has the ability to run in Pennsylvania and is doing a great job there.

I'm from Pa. and without winning the presidency it doesn't make much difference once we become a Dictatorship who the governor is.

So, I'd go with Shapiro, who I also really like, and would probably guarantee PA and really help out with the other Blue Wall states.

I'm not sure Beshear -- or Cooper, who is also mentioned -- can actually guarantee any particular states, including their home states, if they were on the ticket.
