If only we could get Mark Kelly to run! This man is a juggernaut!!!

A rockstar in the Democratic party, fundraising phenom (I think he is the leading Democrat in fundraising), and is a white male that appeals to a broad spectrum of people. Don’t get me wrong. I would LOVE for Kamala Harris be the next potus. But I think there are too many racist and sexist people out there for it to ever come to fruition.

Do you pick someone who is an unknown vs. someone who is a voting member of congress?

You need a strong person in a seat, in a state, where a democrate will be selected as a replacement.

What list of states is that?

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/8/25/17781526/john-mccain-replacement-arizona-governor-doug-ducey

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, is legally required to fill vacancies in Arizona’s US Senate delegation and will therefore appoint McCain’s replacement. Whoever Ducey chooses will stay in office until 2020.

The only other issue is whether a midwest or east coast pick would trump that, but a massive battleground, border state does imo.

I personally feel that "Changing horses in mid-stream" is challenging enough. Let's not add "changing the animal" to the mix.

We all supported Joe. We need to support his discussion to step aside. We must support his support for Kamala.

If we start fighting amongst ourselves, we will all be destroyed. Seriously... we will be destroyed - along with the country and western ideals.

KAMALA ALL THE WAY!

So then, let's debate the VP nomination....

Hillary (who was hated by Maga more than anyone) would've easily won if not for Comey's last minute betrayal, which moved the independents away from her. Biden won because he did better with blacks and the suburbs, and due to Trump's mishandling of covid. Hillary did much better than Biden with Latinos. Both did poorly with white rurals, which Trump owns. Both elections were a flip of the coin. Hillary lost the deciding swing states very narrowly, as Biden won them very narrowly. Biden being a white man did not give him any advantage. If Kamala can reassemble the Obama coalition she can easily win this thing.

Black women are paying attention. If the Democratic party ousts a black woman with the pertinent executive experience to become POTUS for a white man then think we'll just fall in line. That will be a huge miscalculation.

MAGA talking points of how the Democratic party has used black people for votes are already seeping into our community, especially to our black men. I have had numerous tedious discussions of that sort. What you've suggested would've proved them right. Don't push us aside then expect us to vote for you. AOC and Jasmine Crockett made that clear. How quickly we forget that black people especially black women were instrumental in Biden's win in 2020. Biden hasn't forgotten. Biden is all in for Kamala. Many of us are already pissed off with how the party treated President Biden. Side-stepping Kamala would be a double punch in the gut for many of us.

There were many naysayers in 2008 before Obama became the 1st black president. Don't forget that the sexist country voted 3 million more for Hillary than for Trump. Instead of sowing doubt, we should work on party unity and suring up our message to lead Harris and her running mate to victory. We need more chutzpah. Any candidate will have pros and cons. It's fight time.

They say the Dems don't do enough for their pocketbooks or they believe the immigrant crises is entirely the Dems fault. They don't care that they speak the same language either. Abortion also doesn't seem like a big issue to them here.
For Kamala they dislike her because she is a woman, doesn't seem strong or confident enough, & that she is black. I'm sure other minorities feel the same or have other variations of this.

EVERY candidate will be liked and disliked. Every candidate will have pros and cons. I have also spoken to Latinos in the southeast who are enthused about Kamala. A few of my in-laws supported Biden's withdrawal before it happened and Kamala being our nominee while I was all in for Biden.
I have no doubt that sidestepping Kamala will cost us one of our most dedicated base support which will greatly impact this election.

It's worrying that Latinos & others here are feeling similar to the the people you have talked to. If we want to retain or grow their votes the Democrats & our future President need to do more than what they have been doing. Just enough doesn't cut it anymore. I know with today's maga Republicans it's going to be tough making deals, but we need to find a way.

responding. Most were giving you benefit-of-the-doubt that you were not making a subtle racist or sexist attack on our Vice President Harris--the preferred candidate not only of President Joe Biden himself but countless early high-powered endorsers.

So, I will follow their lead. I too like Kelly but this assumption that a white male must lead the ticket-- by anyone but the fully expected MAGA crowd-- is beyond offensive to me. He'd make a great VP, however, and the thought of Gabby Gifford in that mix--able to address gun control issues at the most impactful level, would thrill me.
