Sound familiar?
Remember all the House and Senate candidates running as far and as fast as they could from Obama? Nate Silver wrote an article for the NY Times on Nov 3rd 2011 titled Is Obama Toast? Handicapping the 2012 election. Due to poor handling of the debt ceiling debacle and the following credit downgrade makes the economy vulnerable (paraphrasing).
There were periods of rough seas where his reelection prospects seemed in doubt.
All the chaos around Bidens debate performance, yet it feels like Biden is the calm center of the storm, just like Obama was.
I'm not drawing a direct comparison, just noting that maybe that same calm in the middle of the storm will serve Biden well.
For the record, I'm in the he should go boat but I'll absolutely vote for him when that opportunity comes. Kamala Harris is perfect for this moment with the issues in the spotlight.

(1,437 posts)You are in the he should go category. I believe that is your right. It is egotistical for me to think I have the only valid opinion. The republicans have set up in several swing states a trap. If Biden is taken off the ballot, they are going to make sure no one else can get on. I humbly doubt a write-in campaign would overcome that. So, it looks like if they get their wish and we throw Biden out, we will have absolutely no chance of winning. Knowing all of this, why do you think he should get out?

(453 posts)If it's Joe, I'm voting for him enthusiastically.
I doubt the debate turned anyone from Biden to Trump. My point is that Biden isn't the best person to move us ahead for two reasons.
1. People were truly traumatized by what we saw on the debate stage. There is no way forward that doesn't include the pre event dread that will follow Joe everywhere like yesterday at the press conference.
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that had he bombed the press conference, he would've been toast right then and there.
We can't run the next 4 months with that fear underlying every day. What is happening right now is more of a demoralizing effect that would reduce turnout than change votes.
2. Kamala Harris with a VP that she picks would have a hell of a chance to win, as they would both be able to run almost nonstop against Trump and actually be much better at dictating the flow of conversation than Joe.
It would rejuvenate both the younger voters as well as voters of color that seem so minimized due to these distractions.
I don't believe I have the market cornered on ideas or solutions, I'm terrified of a demoralized base staying home.
We deserve Joe at his very best, and if that's not possible with some degree of certainty, lets take the very best that Kamala and her new running mate have to give.
It's also a bit demeaning that no one is considering what her candidacy would look like. If she was a male, we'd be discussing possible running mates for her now.
These are only my opinions and let me close with the following. I am Voting Dem up and down the ballot no matter who it is as this election is really that important.
