scurrilous campaign way too early. They were hoping for a late September or early October date, so Joe couldn't regroup in time, and Democrats wouldn't be able to see through the media's ratfucking scheme.

But it's a mistake most incumbents make. They're not as into campaign mode as their opponent early in reelection contests.
