Steve Inskeep was pretty rough on Grover this morning on NPR

Here's an approximate transcript:

Inskeep: Grover, I'm going to leave your mic open while I exit the studio for about five minutes to do whatever the hell it is that I do. Probably take a dump or something if I can get there and back in time. Feel free to spout any of your usual anti-tax nonsense. Nobody will stop you. Or refute your claims. Or give any sort of critical analysis of what you have to say. Have at it. (exits studio)

Norquist: Thanks, Steve. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. Taxes are bad. I don't even bother trying to listen to NPR for news any more.

And when they have their pledge drives, I remember moments like the one you've just described and say,

"I'm not paying for THAT shit!"

They're really no better than FOX most mornings...

It gives me a chance to hear unchallened GOP talking points, and where else are you going to get that kind of hard-hitting information?

where you can get nonstop Republican talking points, unchallenged.

Because, you know, the Press in the US are ALWAYS non-partisan and strive to give Americans all sides of the story.....

Bush-Cheney-Rove appointees who gutted PBS & NPR replaced Bob Edwards with Steve Inskeep.

I'm not quite willing to credit him with that much impact or influence, rather seeing him as someone who got out when the network was already on the downward slope.

As you note in your link, though, NPR is still capable of greatness. This American Life remains a fantastic show, and Fresh Air is almost always excellent.

On balance it's better to have NPR than not to have it, but sometimes the shortfalls are so disappointing that it's hard to overlook them.

I saw your subject line, and was about to reply, "Why start now, Steve?" But, you beat me to it.
