Florida GOP leader trashes hotel room during bender, says he'll seek help for alcoholism

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — A leader of the Republican Party of Florida has apologized for being excessively drunk and urinating and vomiting all over his room at a hotel last week, saying he has been dealing with alcoholism and mental health issues.

George Riley, executive director of the state GOP, said Tuesday that he was deeply sorry for his behavior during a stay at a hotel in Kissimmee, near Orlando.

“I have been dealing with alcoholism and mental health issues,” Riley, 43, told the Tampa Bay Times. “I will pay for any damages that were caused. I apologize to the employees for my bad behavior and I will be seeking help soon.”

Riley’s behavior is the latest black eye for the Florida GOP. Earlier this year, the party ousted its chairman, Christian Ziegler, following an investigation into a rape accusation. Police later cleared him.

Who I don't feel for are those idiots who do this crap and then use those issues as an excuse. It demeans the issues and it demeans those who are actually suffering from them. Since that guy and his entire party refuse to accept that such issues even exist (just check their track record on voting over any kind of help or aid for mental health issues), for them to turn and use said issues every time they cannot control themselves is a slap in the face as far as I am concerned.

Now, he might actually suffer from one or both. His party affiliation tells me that my assumption is the more probable assessment of the situation. But, he might...

The leader of Florida GOP.

To find enough deplorables to fill all the propaganda jobs Republicans have created, the quality of cult members falls.

These are very dangerous times because of the idiots who will follow orders without question, but have no self-control or intelligence. And I’m talking about the leadership, not ordinary cultists.

“But the cellphone video Ziegler took of the Oct. 2 incident has prompted a different allegation against him: video voyeurism. Police forwarded a probable-cause affidavit for video voyeurism, a third-degree felony, against Ziegler to the Sarasota County state attorney’s office.”

I doubt anything will ever come of that as it’s shoved down the GrOPper memory hole.

But, there’s this… Hush money? Isn’t that ironic.

“According to the affidavit, Ziegler told detectives that his separate encounter with the woman in early October was consensual and that he had recorded it. A few days later, the affidavit says, he contacted her and asked how he could help her, including financially.”

He will die if he doesn't get immediate medical help. I hope he gets it. He simply cannot live in society and be a threat to others. It sounds like this has been going on for some time now. Having had alcoholism ruin the marriages and lives of some members of my family, I have seen the ravage of lives, gone to funerals, and seen enough destruction and death caused by addiction. And I am not special. I cam certain there are many, many other families who have had similar experiences.

Having said that, I hope he gets the help he clearly needs. For him and everyone affected in his life.
