https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/88-cars-seized-during-stockton-sideshow-may-never-return-to-owners/I've not heard the term "sideshow" before, but apparently its a street takeover. The sheriff in Stockton is trying a new approach.

(10,411 posts)If you're going to repeatedly disregard the law and disrupt neighborhoods with your dangerous sideshows, you need to face certain facts.
Mainly that it's better off done in Oakland. No one will care.
My burb actually passed a law that if you're even watching a sideshow, they will arrest you and charge you with a 6 mos/$1000 misdemeanor. Because that's what a city that isn't willing to put up with the bullshit looks like.
I don't say this often - or almost ever - but nice job, Stockton!

Two new laws, HB 2899 and HB 1442, are now in effect.
The laws allow law enforcement to immediately impound vehicles and confiscate personal property tied to street racing and reckless driving. In some cases, law enforcement will also now be able to permanently seize and ultimately auction vehicles.
